The Ranks and organization of the NYPM are very close in similarity to that of the U.S. Army for reasons of simplicity. One difference that is notable is that what the U.S. Army would call a Battalion, we call a Brigade for reasons we will not go into now.
After the Company, the breakdown is into fire teams (Squads for some) of no more than 6-8 people each, these are the basic units that do most of the work assigned to them on their own terms. There will be a leader who will be responsible for training and scheduling meetings of team members, a medic (person with highest level of medical experience), a communications person (most experienced in radio operations), a sniper (most accurate shot), a heavy gunner (gun can hold more ammo in clip), and multiple riflemen (the basic infantry with a high level of combat readiness, all the others described above can be also considered riflemen, they just have other duties along with it). These units will often work alone but will be organized into a company and/or a brigade if and when an emergency arises.
A region is a group of counties in a specific area of NYS. They are headed by a Regional Commander who reports directly to the Chief Commanders of the state.
