1963 Mercury Comet S-22 Convertible

Something to read while the pics load. :-)

This car has been in my family since around 1970. My dad bought it for $250.00. My mom took me to my first day of school in it. Sometime later my grandpa (my mom's dad) bought it from my father. The car had been left outside with the top down for a couple winters. As a result of that, the floor need to be replaced. It also has been filled up with ash from the Mt. St. Helens eruption of 1980. My grandpa starting caring about it again and did some minor fix-ups, including new seat covers and carpet. A few months before he passed away, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor after a minor accident in the car. He left the car to my mother in his will and my mom gave it to me. She likes the car alot, but had no way to take care of it let alone fix it up. I plan on keeping the car, never to be for sale. It will get a new fender, bumper, paint, floors, top, interior and a mild 289 or 302 engine.

This page will be updated as work progresses.

This is a picture of its good side.

Yes, thats my Chevy truck. I'm not viciously loyal to any particular car brand. I like them all.

Original radio, door panels, visors, dash pad. Seat covers and carpet were done very poorly, but they serve their purpose, for now.

Original jack and hold down equipment. Could be an original spare tire.

This is a pic before I took a single wrench to it. Somehow, the Comet script on the fender was spared major damage as was the S-22 emblem. Also the hood suffered no damage. The clip was easily straightened.

After alot of hammering, I got the fender somewhat straight and the headlights all aimed in the same direction.

Engine is a 170 inline six. Never rebuilt or removed from the car. Runs pretty good, but has a bad lifter and ticks sometimes. tranny is a 4-speed manual that needs some shifter linkage work.

Here she is in many pieces. Notice the red shocks? Got those off the parts car. The ones on THIS car were original
and had long ago stopped doing their job.

Almost done!! Gotta fix that cancer still, but I wanted to get it back together until my bro is able to do some fancy welding.

MY BABY IS WHOLE AGAIN!!!! The replacment fender even almost matches. Sunshine, here we come!!
