Civilization:Call to Power, or CTP, is a turn based strategy game. Versions of the game are now available for  Windows 95/98, Linux, and MAC platforms. Many gamers have found fault with the single player game and the way the artificial intelligence plays the opposing civilizations, they find no challenge in the game and are frustrated by the "mindless" play of the AI. The basic structure of the game is good, so these players turned to Net play to find challenging opponents. In their patch 1.2, Activision added Play by E-mail, another way for players to find challenging opponents.

Still other have delved into the game system and created modifications to enhance play. One of the most popular of these is the Apolyton Pack which contains; Celestial Dawn's Mod v4.2, Unit Graphics for CD's Mod, Harlan's Graphics Mod v1.0, TP's PowerSlics 2.00, Colors00.txt By Slax, World Maps By Zaz, and Eastern Mediterranean Map By Upsala. These modified some of the inconsistencies in the game , while adding new features, units and concepts. Since this was packaged as a scenario,  pbem and net player do not have the compatibility  problems other modifications have caused.
