The rank of Men at Arms is awarded to any new Clan member who has yet to distinguished themselves in combat. A Clan member shall hold this rank until they either score in excess of 25 confirmed kills or has shown extreme bravery and loyalty to the Clan and is therefore prematurely promoted by the Aemon.
The Men at Arms is the lowest ranking warrior. He does not hold any authority at all, and is expected to follow orders given to him (or her) by his superiors, even in the face of overwhelming circumstances. He has yet to earn the full trust of the Clan, until he has proven himself in combat.
The duties of the Men at Arms primarily lie in combat. He is the workhorse of the Clan. The man first sent to battle. It is here that he is expected to learn the brutal art of warfare. Those that survive their first blooding in combat are usually accepted by the Clan, and welcomed into the ranks of the Sons of Aemon. His duty is to serve his commanders well and unquestioning until death releases him from his bonds of servitude.
If the Men at Arms brings the Clan into disrepute or dis-honour from any direct action that he undertakes, the Men at Arms is expelled from the Clan and a death warrant placed on his head. The Men at Arms has the right to plea his case to his commanding officer (or the most senior officer available) who can then judge the Men at Arms circumstances. If circumstances are favourable for the Men at Arms, he is given pardon and placed back into his fighting unit to continue his career. If the circumstances are unfavourable, a sentence of death is bought down upon the Men at Arms and a death warrant is released to all members of the Clan. Any Clan member who can prove that they carried out the sentence of death on the expelled Men at Arms will recieve a bonus tally of 10 kills. Proof is usually in the form of an eye witness.
If the Men at Arms performs honourably in the face of the enemy, he can be recommended for a citation or even promotion to the rank of Swordsman.
