Capes are sometimes one of the areas people struggle with, but really a well painted cape is a good example of simple highlighting.
Capes.
To paint a cape, you really only need to follow the basic highlighting guidelines covered in the last section, but instead of keeping the highlights thin, the first few highlights should be painted all of the raised areas as they tend to be quite large compared to the edges of armour. The more shades you use when painting a cape the more effective it will look.
|
What you are trying to achieve is dark areas in the folds of the cape and light areas on the raised parts. Sometimes the darker the recesses are the more effective a cape can be, but on less detailed capes it looks better with a lighter shade in the recesses.
