I, personally like the Space Wolf Scout models. Some people I know think they look too skinny, but I think they look better than regular Space Marine Scouts. What follows is a detailed guide to how I painted my own Space Wolf Scouts, It's quite long and detailed, so you can view a printable version by clicking here.
Space Wolf Scouts
Undercoat:
I undercoat all of my Space Wolves with black spray paint. Ithink spray paint gives a neater, smoother finish which is much easier to work with. You could paint this undercoat using a couple of coats, watering it down for a more even finish.
Scout Armour:
The scout armour is painted first, using a thinned down shadow grey.
This armour is then highlighted, by mixing a small amount of space wolves Grey with the shadow grey. Paint this mix onto the edges of the armour, in thin lines.
Continue adding more and more space wolves grey to the mix, keeping your highlights progressively thinner. When you get to pure space wolves grey, stop (this should be about 6 or 7 shades).
Trousers:
The trousers of the figure were painted first with snakebite leather. I then highlighted this with a mix between snakebite leather and bubonic brown, leaving small amounts of the darker colour in the recesses.
I continued highlighting by addin bleached bone to the mix until I reached bleached bone.
Skin:
The skin was painted as described in the Advanced Skin article. It was first given a coat of dark flesh, and then highlighted with mixes of dark flesh, dwarf flesh and elf flesh.
One of the scouts was left with dark skin which was acheived by not highlighting the model as much as the others.
Boots:
The boots were highlighted with codex grey (they were left black from the undercoat).
Weapons:
Bolt/Plasma Pistols - The casing of these weapons were painted blood red, and highlighted with blazing orange. The metal areas were painted boltgun metal.
Knife - The knives were simply painted boltgun metal and highlighted with a bit of chainmail. Handles were painted snakebite leather and highlighted with bubonic brown.
Hair:
The hair on some of the scouts was drybrushed with codex grey.
Extra Details (gun pouches, grenades, wolf pelts, combat knives etc):
On the Space Wolf sprues there are many extra things you can put on your marines.
Gun Pouches - these are painted with bestial brown, and then highlighted with snakebite leather.
Grenades - any grenades are painted with snot green, and highlighted with a blob of scorpion green on each square.
Wolf Pelts - wolf pelts are painted bestial brown. Then they are drybrushed snakebite leather, bubonic brown and finally with bleached bone. Each drybrush getting closer to the end of the pelt
combat knives - the handle of these are painted snakebite leather, highlighted with bubonic brown. The knife is painted with boltgun metal. If it is in a scabbard/pouch, this is painted blood red.
purity seals - the paper of the purity seals is painted with bestial brown, and then highlighted with snakebite leather, bubonic brown, bleached bone and finally white. Small lines are painted on with black to look like writing.
Bases:
The base was given a coat of PVA glue. The sand was added to the base.
This was then painted black and then drybrushed grey. A small amount of static grass was added to the bases.
The edges of the base were painted goblin green.
Well, that's how I went about painting my Space Wolf Scouts. Hopefully this guide will have been helpful to you. Check out my Space Wolf Marine article, and my Space Wolf markings section.
