ACW Fest 2000

Each side had two victory conditions to fulfill to be declared the winner the union had to Clear a two foot wide free of enemy units the width of the Table on the one side and not be forced back over the river on the other. The Confederates were the opposite. If both sides only met one requirement (as occurred) the battle would be a draw.

The action began in the center of the table.

The Confederate Central position after two unsucessful Union Attacks, no casualties while the union dead are almost blocking the river.

Zouaves guarding an uncrossable section of the river, north of the ford.

Rebels watching the body choked ford to their front awaiting the next doomed attack.

Results of Union Attempts to cross the center ford, Not visible are the several hundred dead figures in the water.

this shot shows the part of the table where most of the action took place. the river that splits the table is crossanle in only six spot all of which must be crossed in march column. The Union are on the right side of the photo.

Most of the action took place on the Union Right flank as indicated by the following pictures.

Confederate troops move forward, while the Federal are content to shoot them down as they attack.

the Rebel guns are ready... but the infantry refused to wait and is now masking them.

Rebels turn a Union Flank. All the Fedearal units in this picture end up as prisoners after this turn.

The Union Left Flank provided the Confederates a chance to get in some target practice.
The Union players on this flank had to clear a two foot wide corridor the entire width of the table while attempting to cross a bridge or one of two fords all of which were heavily defended

not much is happening on the Union left flank as this is some of what awaits them if they try to cross the river.

The only US unit to get across the river on the Left flank, It was destroyed in one fire phase.

Un-identified Union Commander demonstrating how he feels after attemting to cross the river.

Realising that he is not going to get across the river, the U.S Left Flank commander deploys to prevent the Rebels from reinforcing their Left

More shots showing the fighting for the central ford. The Union lining up on the far side for yet another doomed attack.

The results of the latest Union Attack.

The union objective on this flank was to clear a corridor the width of the battlefield but as that was obvioulsly impossible the taske changed to pinning a large percentage of the rebel army and prevent them from reinforcing thier right.
