WELL SOME PEOPLE WILL SAY NEVER CUT THE COMMUTATOR,IT HURTS THE MOTOR.WELL LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY.WITH TODAY'S BRUSHES CONTAINING SO MUCH SILVER OUR MOTORS RUN FASTER BUT THERE IS A PRICE TO PAY.THE BRUSHES TEND TO CHEW UP THE COMMUTATORS AND LESSEN THE PERFORMANCE OVER A PERIOD OF TIME.WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE COMM NEEDS TO BE CUT.NOW HERE'S WHAT HAPPENS.WHEN YOU BUILD THE MOTOR WITHOUT CUTTING THE COMM FIRST THE BRUSHES WEAR IN A CERTAIN WAY,THE WAY THE COMM IS SHAPED.NOW WHEN YOU GO TO CUT THE COMM THE COMM  SIZE CHANGES BUT SO DOES THE SHAPE.WHEN YOU BREAK THE BRUSHES BACK IN THEY HAVE TO BREAK IN TO A NEW SHAPE AND SOME TIMES THIS MAY TAKE A FEW RUNS ON THE TRACK AND THE  MOTOR CHARACTERISTICS CHANGE.

WHEN EVER CUTTING YOUR COMM ALWAYS USE SOME TYPE OF BLACK FELT TIP PEN,A BLACK SHARPIE WORKS RATHER WELL AND YOU CAN PICK THESE UP AT ANY ARTS STORE OR EVEN YOUR QUICKIE MART GAS STATION.THIS WILL HELP LUBRICATE THE COMM AGAINST THE LATHE BIT AND ALSO SHOW YOU HOW MUCH WEAR HAS OCCURRED.

CLEANING BRUSHES AND COMMS.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.ANYTIME YOU RUN THE MOTOR WHETHER IT BE ON THE TRACK,A DYNO OR JUST  IN YOUR HANDS YOU MUST CLEAN THE MOTOR OUT.WHEN EVER YOU SPIN THE MOTOR UP THE BRUSHES PUT A BURN SPOT ON THE COMM,THIS ROBS YOU OF POWER AND WILL AFFECT YOUR SPEED ON THE TRACKS.
TRINITY AND EVEN RADIO SHACK MAKES A FIBERGLASS BRUSH TOOL THAT IS PERFECT FOR CLEANING BRUSH FACES OFF.SIMPLY AFTER EVERY RUN BRUSH THE FACE OF EACH BRUSH WITH THIS TOOL AND REMOVE ALL THE BURN DUST LEFT OVER.THIS TOOL HELPS BRING THE BRUSHES BACK TO THIER SHINY APPEARANCE FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.
NOW WHEN IT COMES TO CLEANING THE COMM,THE SAME TOOL CAN BE USED.SIMPLY EXTEND THE BRUSH AND SLIDE IT IN A BRUSH HOOD.NOW IF YOU HAVE ONE OF THOSE CORDLESS DREMELS,SIMPLY PUT THE MOTOR SHAFT INTO THE DREMEL AND SPIN THE ARM.WITH THE BRUSH TOOL IN THE HOOD,THE DREMEL SPINS THE ARM AND CLEANS THE COMM OF ALL CARBON RESIDUE.THIS ALSO BRINGS THE COMM BACK TO A SHINY,ALMOST POLISHED,APPEARANCE.

ONE BIG THING TO REMEMBER IS TO CLEAN YOUR MOTOR EVERY TIME YOU DYNO IT.IF YOU SPIN THE MOTOR AND THEN WANT TO TRY A DIFFERENT SPRING SETUP,YOU MUST CLEAN THE MOTOR TO GET A CORRECT READING.WHAT HAPPENS IS IF YOU SPIN IT AND DONT CLEAN IT YOU WILL LOSE POWER POINTS AND WONT BE ABLE TO SEE THE REAL  DIFFERENCE.WE HAVE SEEN PEOPLE SPIN MOTORS UP 4 OR 5 TIMES WITHOUT CLEANING THEM AND WONDER WHY THE MOTOR KEEPS GETTING WORSE BUT AS SOON AS THEY CLEAN THE MOTOR OUT THE RIGHT WAY IT COMES BACK TO LIFE.BUT IN THE MEAN TIME THEY CANT SEE THE DIFFERENCE FROM CHANGES THEY MADE.

BREAKING IN BUSHINGS
THIS IS WERE STOCK MOTORS LOSE PERFORMANCE IF NOT DONE RIGHT.
TRINITY BUSHING BUSTER WORKS REAL WELL,ALMOST TO WELL,WHEN IT COMES TO BREAKING THESE IN.THE BIG ISSUE WITH USING THIS MIXTURE IS THAT OVER USING IT WILL DISTORT THE BUSHING AND CAUSE THE ARM TO RATTLE AROUND CAUSING ERRATIC BRUSH BOUNCE.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO TRY THIS BUSHING BUSTER,APPLY ONLY A LITTLE DROP TO EACH BUSING AND RUN FOR ROUGHLY 30 SECS.AFTER DOING SO SPRAY THE MOTOR OUT REAL GOOD AND SPIN THE MOTOR AGAIN TO MAKE SURE NONE IS TRAPPED INSIDE THE BUSHING.
AS FOR PERSONAL TECHNIUQES......SIMPLY OIL THE BUSHINGS REAL WELL WHILE BREAKING IN YOUR BRUSHES.ANOTHER GOOD WAY IS TO USE A SLAVE MOTOR TO SPIN THE RACE MOTOR.SIMPLY USE A SMALL PIECE OF FUEL TUBING TO CONNECT TO TWO MOTORS AND SPIN THE SLAVE MOTOR AT 3.00VOLTS.THIS WILL BREAK THE BUSHINGS IN AND LESSEN ANY HARM POSSIBLY CAUSED BY OTHER CHEMICALS.

BREAKING IN BRUSHES
VERY IMPORTANT TO GET THE MOST SPEED OUT OF YOUR STOCKERS.
WE LIKE TO USE RACE PREP COMM DROPS WHEN WE BREAK IN ANY OF OUR MOTORS.WE HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE THE QUICKEST WAY AND THE BEST WAY TO GET THE BRUSHES FULLY SEATED.SIMPLY PUT A DROP ON EACH BRUSH AND RUN UNTIL YOU SEE THE AMPS LEVEL OUT.YOUR AMP DRAW MAY BE LOW OR HIGH BUT LET THE MOTOR RUN FOR ATLEAST 500 SECONDS AND WATCH HOW THE AMPS ARE FLUXUATING.ONCE YOU HAVE NOTICED THE AMPS HAVE COME TO SETTLE IN CLEAN THE MOTOR REAL WELL,BRUSHES AND COMM.
NOT DONE THERE.....STILL ONE MORE THING TO DO TO BREAK THEM IN.RUN IT ON THE TRACK.YUP STICK YOUR GEAR ON THERE AND RUN A PRACTICE PACK THROUGH THE MOTOR.THE REASON WE SAY THIS IS THAT WE BELIEVE A TRACK RUN IS THE BEST WAY TO SEAT THE BRUSHES THE WAY THIER GONNA BE RACED.WITH AMP DRAWS VARYING BETWEEN STRAIGHTS AND TURNS THE BRUSHES TEND TO SEE DIFFERENT  SPEEDS.
THIS WILL INSURE YOU THE MOTOR WILL RUN AT ITS BEST.ONE OTHER BENEFIT FROM DOING THIS IS YOU CAN LISTEN AND SEE IF THE GEAR YOU SELECTED IS WHAT THAT MOTOR WANTS.EVERY MOTOR DIFFERS A SLIGHT BIT AND ONE GEAR MIGHT NOT BE SUITED FOR ALL YOUR MOTORS.
