    Protoss Mission Strategies

Mission 10 - The Eye of the Storm
The final confrontation, the Protoss and Terrans against the ultimate Zerg hive Cluster. You are in command of Jim Raynors Terran forces, you will have access to every Terran unit and building, you also have Fenix' Protoss, along with the awesome power of the Dark Templar. Using both these forces together will offer several advantages, the problem will be maximising their potential to the detriment of the Zerg.

Your opening moves will very much determine your success in this game, you need resources very quickly.

Go to the Terran base, put three Marines and a Firebat in each of the bunkers an set your SCVs to mining the minerals. Going back to the Protoss base get three of your Probes mining resources and move the other Probe to the left. Take your Dark Templar, excluding Zeratul, and move them to the far left bottom corner of the map, here there will be two Hydralisks, when you attack them they will bury themselves so bring along a Probe to lure them out, once they have been killed warp in a Nexus.

Back at the Protoss camp build Interceptors in Tassadar's Carrier and warp in five more Probes to mine minerals. Warp in a Gateway and a Cybernetics Core. Once your second Nexus is ready warp in fifteen more Probes there and mine the plentiful minerals.

Still at your second nexus warp in two lots of three Photon cannons:

This will offer minimum necessary defences that can be backed up by your Dark Templar, it will also discourage any Overlords that happen to drift past. At both of your Nexus' warp in Gateways and then warp in ten Zealots at each. At your first Nexus warp in a Cybernetics Core and then warp in about ten Dragoons at each Nexus. Warp in an Assimilator at your first Nexus and take advantage of the

At the Terran base you are going to be pummelled continuously by the Zerg, the only thing you can do is keep building Marines, bunkers and Missile Turrets. These will be destroyed and you will lose troops hand over fist, keep replacing lost troops until you can build and Academy, upgrade here and begin to upgrade at the Engineering bay. You will need to keep build SCVs as well, these will inevitably be caught in the crossfire or picked off by the Zerg. When you feel slightly confident that you have borne the brunt of their attack, and that you have some half decent defences in place (by now you should know what constitutes good defences) build a Factory with a Machine Shop, develop Spider mines and Siege mode for your tanks. Now build four Vultures and litter the ground below your base with Spider Mines, that should slow and weaken the Zerg forces.

If your Terran defences do not look like this then you will be annihilated , likewise you need a lot of protection at your Protoss bases, so dot Photon Cannon around them and be sure you have the ten Dragoons and ten Zealots necessary.

At some point one of your bases will be attacked by a horde, and I do mean horde, of Ultralisks, about ten of the buggers and a lot of air support. The base that gets attacked seems to be random as I tried this bit several times and each time a different base got trashed. This is why you need such powerful defences. Once this attack has taken place you can start to build the advanced structures at your first Nexus and at your Terran base. Build a second Command Centre and build a Covert Ops on your Science facility, you can now build Nuclear Silos on your Command Centres. Develop your Ghosts at the Covert Ops. Upgrade everything you can everywhere you can. At your second Nexus take a force of 12 Zealots straight up, you will encounter a small Zerg Hive Cluster. Wreak havoc and when a concerted defence falls into place lure the Zerg into the waiting Phase Disruptors of your Dragoons. The small Hive Cluster will now be totally open and should be destroyed utterly. Replace any lost troops immediately.

Now you can take one of your SCVs along the top of the map and then move it down to the Protoss base, the same can be done with a Protoss probe. What this in effect allows you to do is combine the Protoss and the Terrans into amalgamated forces. Use the Terran SCV to build a Command Centre next to your second nexus and then build Missile Turrets upon the plateau to the right of you first Nexus, this will stop the constant attacks by the Zerg Queens.

Now at the third Terran Command Centre build another Nuclear Silo and then build five more SCVs and a Barracks. Now you can use the Terran bunkers and Missile Turrets to defend your bases, and as you'll discover they are a lot more effective than the Protoss Photon Cannons.

At the top of the map to the right there are two vespene geysers, each with 8000 in gas, move Zeratul, a Templar and a Probe up just below it. Now use the Templar's Psychic Storm to clear the area of burrowed Zerg and set up the plateau as below.

Move all of your Probes from your first Nexus up to here and start harvesting the gas. Build three Carriers and three Arbiters and have about six Reavers ready and tooled up. Move a Probe up from the first nexus and build another Nexus and defences as below.

The area shown below is ideal for ravaging with nuclear weapons, just keep dumping them on the Zerg and building more. The cost shouldn't matter, if you have survived this long you'll discover that the Zerg will be too busy building defensive troops to try any more large attacks on your bases.

Now you will be ready to begin the final assault on the Zerg. Split your attack into waves, the first wave should consist of a combination of Zealots and Marines. At your second Nexus train 12 marines, 12 Firebats and 12 Zealots, split theses into three groups and move them slowly upwards seeing how much damage they can do before they are killed. In this way your can gauge the power of the Zerg resistance. Once these troops are dead bring down ten Siege Tanks and ten Goliaths from your top Terran base, using the rank technique from earlier Terran missions you should be able to fight your way quite deeply into the Hive Cluster. At the same time move all your Protoss troops from their respective places into the Hive Cluster, if this doesn't seem to be enough (Yeah right) then empty your bunkers and bring them on.
