    Zerg Mission Strategies

Mission 1 - Among the Ruins
This first Zerg mission is not quite as simple as you would believe, your starting objective seems frighteningly simple and yet others become apparent very soon. You have to protect the chrysalis from harm and destroy utterly the Terran forces, very difficult as the Terrans have quite a few Goliaths and by now you can appreciate how dangerous these units are.

Set your two drones to harvesting the minerals and select the two hatchlings by the Hatchery and mutate them into Overlords. Now morph six more drones, set five of them to harvesting the minerals and use the last one to morph a Spawning Pool to the left of your Hatchery.

There is a vespene geyser to the right of your Hive Cluster, morph and Extractor here and mutate another four drones to harvest the gas. If you wan to progress you are going to have to start morphing Creep colonies to give you enough Creep to morph on. The good thing about the Creep is that wherever it is you can see giving you eyes everywhere. Mutate another two drones and morph Creep colonies at the right of your Hive Cluster and at the top. You should now have three Creep colonies in total, mutate these into Sunken colonies once the Creep has stopped moving out from them. These will give you a basic ground defence and will give you time to morph your forces.

The problem with Zerg is that they need a lot of Drones as the Drones are not only harvesters but also they morph into the buildings, so keep a good supply of them handy, morph about six more. Get them harvesting but remember that they are about to become buildings within the very near future. With the Zerg you have the advantage of regeneration, a few Terran marines will attack your Hive Cluster, the Sunken colonies and the Zerglings will take care of them but any wounded Zerglings move back to the chrysalis and replace them with fresh ones. This management of your troops will limit your losses and give you a numerical advantage, giving you more for you money.

Your Zerglings are cheap and fairly effective, but it is a good idea to get Hydralisks as soon as possible as they are not only much more powerful but they have ranged weapons. Morph a Hydralisk Den above your Hatchery.

You are going to take a lot of attacks on the right flank of your Hive Cluster, so morph a Creep Colony beside the refinery and mutate it into a Sunken Colony. To improve your troops overall abilities it is necessary to morph an Evolution Chamber, morph it at the top of your Hive Cluster, between your two Sunken colonies. Now you have a basic Hive Cluster you can start to morph your forces. To start you are going to need twelve Hydralisks and about another twelve Zerglings. Gather these together at the extreme right of your Hive Cluster. Upgrade your Hydralisks at the Hydralisk Den, this gives them extra speed and range upgrades specific to them, also you should upgrade your missile attacks and carapace at the Evolution Chamber.

The Zerglings you had at the right of your Hive Cluster move to the top, they will provide support for your Sunken colonies whilst your burgeoning army can take care of the right. Now morph another 12 Hydralisks and send them to the top of your Hive Cluster, don't worry about Overlords, just spawn them as and when necessary. Pretty soon your crystals are going to run out, this is the cue to begin your first attack. With your 12 Hydralisks at the top of the Hive Cluster move up the map until you find the crystals, they are directly above you and are only lightly guarded. Secure this area with your Hydralisks and then morph several Creep colonies so that the Creep stretches all the way up to the crystal. Mutate the first of these into a Spore Colony, this gives you some air defence and a spotter. Morph yourself about 8 new Drones and keep them in readiness. Begin harvesting the crystals and move your Hydralisks up the ramp, continue moving them across to the right. Proceed slowly so that anything that is revealed you can deal with and if any of your troops are badly injured simply move them to the back of the group out of the line of fire so that they can regenerate. Morph 12 more Hydralisks and send them up to guard your harvesting Drones at the crystals. Once you have destroyed the Starport stop at the top of the ramp and hold position.

This will allow you to repel the Goliaths and troops that are sent against you. Now move your bottom army, the one to the right of your Hive Cluster, directly right until it encounters a Terran barracks and several missile turrets. Let you troops destroy the base and any troops that come against you, it shouldn't prove too difficult.

Rest your troops for a while, give them time to regenerate and then move them up the map at the same time moving your other troops (the Hydralisks at the top) down the ramp and into the enemy base. Get the two forces to meet in the middle at the Terran barracks, move them slowly so that they can destroy everything in their pat and victory will be yours.
