The basic changes in the new campaign is a much smaller core and much less prestige.
You  start with a max core of 7 in Poland and this increases by about 1 each scenario
(ending with 20 in Washington, or 22 in Berlin).  This will  force you to rely on the
auxiliary units more, therefore giving better historical unit composition. I haven't play
tested every scenario in the campaign but from the testing I have done, I'm very happy
with the core unit changes.  The prestige situation is a little more unclear.  Understand,
that in general, I believe in giving as little prestige as possible.  I don't want to make it
too easy to have all the best equipment all at 15 strength.  After three or four scenarios I
think that the axis has too much prestige (the 500 pts for a major and all the prestige from
capturing cities adds up to a lot), but as the war wears on, this trend begins to straighten
itself out.  I don't recommend spending all your prestige early in the war as you will
probably need to dip into reserves late in the war. Initially I had eliminated as much
prestige as possible,  but, in my latest pass I've added some starting prestige back into the
later defensive scenarios.  I recommend playing at the  hard setting.   While I have made
extensive changes since the first release of this for the floppy disk version I ad still open
to the idea of further changes, so your feedback is encouraged.

Below you will find a description of the 5 campaigns, when  played at the hard setting
(+2 prestige, +1 experience), with  weather, supplies, and hidden units.

39 -  While my 39 campaign is a significant improvement over the original SSI version,
it still is not too difficult to knock out the British, Russians, and Americans at the hard
setting (Washington is actually reasonably challenging).

41 East -  The first scenario (Barbarosa) is very challenging as are the Moscow scenarios.
An overall victory (over the  Americans) is quite possible, but a decent challenge.

41 West -  A very difficult campaign. An overall victory (over  the Americans) is
possible, but very challenging.  The Moscow scenarios are very difficult.

43 West - With my modified equipment file, Husky becomes difficult (you can no longer
block the Straights of Messina with  Sem L-47's because the Allies will now attack
them).  If you  manage to get through Husky, Anzio and D-Day without serious core
losses (and you major in D-Day) this campaign will become pretty easy (forcing the
allies to sue for peace and not fight any of  the Berlin scenarios), but the first three
scenarios can be pretty challenging.

43 East -  It is possible to defeat the Russians in Moscow 43, but it is a good challenge.
If you don't lose core units (or at least any critical ones) you should be able to force the
allies to terms and avoid fighting any of the Berlin scenarios.

When executing the batch file which controls the set up for the new campaign, you will
be given the option of using my new equipment file.  At the end of the campaign
description you will find a description of the work that was done to create it.  I strongly
recommend that you use it as it increases the play balance.  The biggest change is the
cost of several underpriced units.  These include the IT Sem-47 anti-tank unit.  With
these changes the computer AI will attack these in Husky and this is now a difficult
scenario (at least for the start of a 43 West campaign).  This was never the case before.

Installation

installation for disk version:

A few one-time steps are necessary before using PGCMPEQP.  I'm going to  assume that
your Panzer General directory is named \PG.  If it's not,  substitute your directory name
for \PG.  Steps 1 through 4 need to be done only once,  there after all you need to is run
step 5.

1. Use the MKDIR (MD) command to create a sub-directory \PG\DAT\BAK.

2. Copy all original PG scenario files to \PG\DAT\BAK:
MAPxx.SET  where xx goes from 01 to 38
MAPxx.STM  where xx goes from 01 to 38
GAME0xx.SCN  where xx goes from 01 to 38
 also copy PANZEQUP.EQP  into   \PG\DAT\BAK

easy to do in Windows 95, if using windows 3.1 or DOS you may want to write
a batch file or use PKZIP

3. Copy the enclosed file PGCMPEQP.BAT to your \PG directory.

4. Place the new PG campaign scenario files into the \PG\DAT directory they are:
 MAPxx.SET  where xx goes from 55 to 58, and 61 to 98
 MAPxx.STM  where xx goes from 55 to 58, and 61 to 98
 GAME0xx.SCN  where xx goes from 55 to 58, and 61 to 98
plus PGMOD.eqp   (my modified equipment file).

this may be best accomplished by unzipping the zipped file you downloaded in
this  directory

5.  Run PGCMPEQP.BAT.  This WILL OVERWRITE 38 PG scenario files
(MAPxx.SET,MAPxx.STM, GAME0xx.SCN; where xx goes from 01 to 38).
While running this batch file you will be asked which campaign you wish to
play, 1939, 1941 West, 1941 East, 1943 West, or 1943 East.   You will also be
asked which equipment file you wish to use.  If you choose to use my new one,
the original panzequp.eqp file will be overwritten with PGMOD.EQP.  WHEN
YOU ARE DONE RUNNING PG ALL THE ORIGIONAL FILES WILL BE
RESTORED (in the PG\DAT sub-directory) USING THE COPIES YOU
PLACED IN THE BAK SUB-DIRECTORY.   When PG starts select the same
campaign you chose in the batch file question.  It is entirely up to YOU to
ensure that this choice is make CONSISTENTLY.  After you finish running
PGCMPEQPBAT and it restores all the origional files PG can be run normally.
You can save as normal when playing the new campaign, but when loading
these games back  into PG you should have started the game by running
PGCMPEQP.BAT, and selected the SAME campaign that you did when you
started.
