Intel has announced that it will call the Willamette, its next-generation processor, the Pentium 4. The Pentium 4 will debut at an initial speed of 1.4 GHz, according to Intel. Rather than increase speed in 33-MHz or 50-MHz increments, the chips will jump by 100 MHz at a time, so the next step up will be a 1.5-GHz chip. As with the earlier Pentium generations, the Pentium 4 will likely be split into sub-brands.
The new cpu will feature a 400-MHz system bus, roughly three times as fast as Intel's current system bus. The system bus serves as a data conduit between the processor and the rest of the computer. The faster it is, the better.
The Pentium 4 will be released in the 3rd or 4th quarter. Just in time for CFS2  lolol.
On a local note, tomorrow marks the start of Australias' new tax system called GST (Goods & Services Tax, the same as VAT in the United Kingdom)
Having come from New Zealand where GST has been in force for 14 years and has nearly crippled the country, it will be interesting as to how long before aussies realize they are being shafted and will be squealing like stuck pigs hehe.

Microsoft has announced that Combat Flight Simulator 2 will be released in November. So folks you've got 4 months to upgrade your cpu, ram and video card. Sadly, Microsoft has targeted the single player buyer and has made virtually no changes or enhancements to the online multiplayer side of the game.

I logged onto the zone last night in time to see the regulars giving SW__MoJo a hard time. Yep someone using my name but with 2 underscores. Someone called a sysop and the idiot disappeared very quickly. I really have to wonder what the idiot hoped to achieve. One of the zone regulars who has scanning software and who keeps track of ip's and machine names etc told me who it was, so I'll have a word to the idiots C.O.

Sorry for the lack of news I've been out of the loop for a while.
Interesting to read that Intels recall of the problem motherboards which used memory translation hub (MTH), with Intel's 820 chipset is costing Intel $253 million but will apparently cost less than the notorious Pentium recall of 1994, which costs the company roughly $475 million.

It would be nice to be able to handle losses of that amount  lol.

The RAF662 Squadron now has a new website visit them here. If you're allied with them make sure you change the link to their site.
WA Squadron have a new kickass messageboard, go and check leave them a message  here.

Reading about the recent CFS Convention held in Lexington Kentucky. While only 40 or so people turned up, they all had a fantastic time and have all agreed to do the same next year.
I could be wrong, but feel that because it was originally advertised as a Combatfs.com convention centering on Trogfighters, a lot of people stayed away. Over at Combatfs the "Zone" is/was a dirty word, so I'd imagine this didn't help.
Hopefully next year, it will be more widely advertised and Microsoft will take a more active role in backing it, and a lot more pilots will attend. Unfortunately airfares between Australia and the US being so high means so many of us "downunder" are unable to attend unless we win the lottery.

Do you want a challenge? Download the panzer tank from here, or the aircraft download page and see if you can drive it from Interlaken to Lucerne. Believe me it is harder than it looks.

Cable and DSL Users Please Read

Hackers have embedded a malicious program disguised as a movie clip on 2,000 commercial and home computers, positioning themselves to launch an attack designed to shut down Web sites, security experts told the government in an alert.

Computer users with high-speed connections who want to check for the "Serbian Badman Trojan" program should look for a file with the ".exe" extension but displayed with the icon used to designate video clips. The actual file name is random, but most likely it is eight-character gibberish in all capital letters. The file size is approximately 373 kilobytes.
The file is usually located in the directory where the Windows operating software is located, security experts said.

Once the file is located, the computer user should delete it and then open his or her "system.ini" and "win.ini" files and delete references to the filename. People should also check the Windows registry for references to the malicious program.
Beyond damage control, Internet surfers using cable modem and digital subscriber lines (DSL) should think in terms of prevention by installing and using firewall security software. Popular firewall programs include Zone Alarm from Zone Labs, BlackICE Defender from Network ICE and Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2000.
Anybody who is directly connected to the Internet through cable modems or DSL is extremely susceptible to these back-door programs. The hackers, who used the nicknames "Serbian" and "Badman," tested their network of infected computers last night and could launch an attack at any time, Network Security said.
The firm said it alerted the Justice Department yesterday about its discovery and provided the government a list of 2,000 computers worldwide that have been infected with the malicious program.
The security firm suspects the hackers are adding to their numbers daily and could soon launch a major attack."When he thinks all of those clients are sleeping, one of them is really active and watching them," Waskelis explained.
The hackers planted a file that looks like a movie clip on home and commercial computers across the world. The file essentially turns the infected computer into a "zombie" machine that the hackers can control, Network Security said. When the fake movie clip is activated, the malicious program runs without any visible clues to the user. The program sends passwords, network details and other information to the hackers.
Armed with that information, the hackers can then use the infected computer as a permanent gateway to access personal and corporate files or to launch massive denial-of-service attacks on Web sites.
In such an attack, the zombie computers can be used to send thousands of repetitive requests, clogging a Web site's computers until they seize up.
Network Security executives said they uncovered computers across the world that were penetrated by the hackers, including in Austria, Greece, Canada, Russia, France and the United States.
Most of the infected computers belonged to home users connected to high-speed Internet providers, Network Security said.
Home users are especially susceptible because they do not have up-to-date antivirus software or firewall programs that block hacker attacks. Also, most home users have fixed Internet addresses that are easily identified.

Had some real fun games with RAFs Dynotech, Warhawk and Chip, flying the Chaps No F9UN aircraft. For those of you who haven't tried it, CH_Jam has painted up some stock aircraft in bright colours. Pilots fly these bright planes with no tags, radar, target lock etc. All you rely on is eyesight. Anyone who wants to try it out should go to the Chaps website and download the aircraft.

Two weeks after recalling nearly 1 million computer motherboards because of a faulty component, Intel is telling computer makers that a revamped part should be ready next quarter.Intel said in May that a glitch could cause crashes or data loss among computers that have a memory translation hub (MTH), a chip that allows Intel's 820 chipset to connect to standard memory. Once the new component is available, Intel plans to resume making the 820 again available for use with standard memory. The 820 chipset was designed for use with high-speed Rambus-based memory and has continued to ship in that configuration.
Damn!! they call a problem that could affect a million motherboards a glitch?
