DiskWars Intermediate Issues 1: Army Construction

Certain disks will only work with certain other disks. The first restriction is that of Alignment. Good disks (green bordered) are not allowed in an army with Evil disks (red bordered). Blue bordered disks are Neutral, and are allowed in an army that either has good or evil disks. The second restriction is along the lines of Faction. There are, currently, 10 factions: Accolytes, Dragons, Dwarves, Elves, Knights, K'Ryth, Mahkim, Orcs, Undead and Uthuk. In addition, there are those disks which are unfactioned and will work within any army, given alignment restrictions. There are two important impacts that factions have on army construction: an army must have 50% of it's value (after subtracting points spent on spells) derived from a single faction; the other consideration is in using the Gold bordered Champion disks. As long as an army is composed of a single faction, and/or unfactioned disks, it has access to Champion disks which are typically very cost efficient.
Army General Construction Examples: 150 points.
Elf (mixed army)
Elves 75 points (all Good/no Champions)
Dwarves 30 points (Neutral and Good)
Unfactioned Disks 45 points (Neutral and Good)
Elf (pure army)
Elves 80 points (Good and Champions)
Unfactioned Disks 70 points (Neutral and Good)
Elf (mixed army with magic)
Spells 50 points
Elves 50 points (all Good)
Knights 10 points (Good and Neutral)
Dwarves 10 points (Good and Neutral)
Accolytes 10 points (all Good)
Mahkim 10 points (all Neutral)
Unfactioned 10 points (Good and Neutral)
Who stacks up against whom?
Good:
Accolyte (some neutral disks)
Elves (some neutral disks)
Knights (some neutral disks. In Waiquar's Path some evil disks)
Dragons (some neutral disks)
Neutral:
Dwarves (some good disks. In Wastelands some evil disks)
Mahkim (some good disks)
Evil:
K'Ryth (pure evil demons)
Orcs (a few neutral disks)
Undead (also pure evil)
Uthuk (absolutely evil)
Dragons (some neutral disks)
What does all this mean to the budget minded gamer?
Since the random flats you obtain may, and probably will, net you disks that are neutral, good and evil, you will have to make a choice on factions and whether you trade or retain the disks you have. You can focus on the one (or more) factions that suit your preferences and styles. Dwarves and Mahkim are capable of working with, and for, anyone; although going evil with either currently denies the use of both factions' strongest disks. Knights should stick with good and neutral, although the Waiquar's Path expansion gives them a weak, evil option. Accolytes should stick to the good, with neutral additions, perhaps. Currently Good Dragons are viable; Evil Dragons are extraordinary; Neutral Dragons are decent; Dragons might, therefore, be an excellent choice. K'Ryth, Undead, Orcs and Uthuk are powerful but stuck with Evil and Neutral disks.
There are many choices, the simplest being to throw together a mixed army based (50%) on any one faction; or to concentrate on a single faction.
