Third Imperium: Armada Rulings
Armada Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The FFS Viking has the gunship icon and the number 6 beside it. Is the Viking a gunship, carrier, or both?
A: The FFS Viking is a gunship and has no squadron capacity. Ignore the number 6.
Q: The rules state that a bomber can be reloaded if it is within Range: 1 of a carrier and an Activate Crew order is used. Does this mean that only one bomber squadron is reloaded?
A: Yes. You may only reload one bomber squadron per Activate Crew order.
Q: According to the fleet-building rules, you may not have multiple copies of the same crew disk on a single ship, unless that crew disk is unlimited. Can you, after the game begins, teleport a non-unlimited crew disk onto a ship that already has a copy of that disk on board?
A: No. Even after the game begins, you may not have multiple copies of the same crew disk on a single ship, unless that crew disk is unlimited.
Q: The "Subversion" special ability effect (#23) seems overly powerful, as it can negate any other instant special ability or crew order in the game. Shouldn't it have a range?
A: Yes. The "Subversion" special ability effect should read "Flip one crew or tech disk on an opponent's ship within Range: 2."
Q: The Federation of Sol crew disk "Marines" has a security icon. Shouldn't it be an away team icon?
A: Yes. This is a misprint. The Federation of Sol crew disk "Marines" is an away team disk, and should have an away team icon.
Q: In the "Example: Torpedo" diagram in the rules, it appears the "damage" and "speed" icons are mislabeled. Is this the case?
A: Yes. The icon labeled as "damage" is actually "speed," and vice-versa.
Q: If an opponent boards my carrier and takes control of it during the boarding step, what happens to my squadrons?
A: Your squadrons may be destroyed, just as if the carrier had been destroyed. Your opponent never takes control of your squadrons; if you don't have any other carriers in play with sufficient free capacity, the squadrons are destroyed.(See "Squadrons" in the rule book for details.)
Q: According to the rules, if an escort ship destroys a squadron or torpedo with its beam weapon, it may fire a second time. If it destroys a squadron or torpedo with its second shot, can it fire again?
A: No.
Q: Can ships or squadrons attack torpedoes?
A: Only escort ships can attack torpedoes, and only with their beam weapons.
Q: When using the "Ship Teleport" special ability effect (#26), can you change your ship's heading?
A: Yes. When you place your ship, you may face it in any direction.
Q: Several wing commander crew disks have a single Activate Crew order. This order seems to have no use, as it would require me to use an Activate Crew order to use it. Is this the case?
A: Yes. The Activate Crew has no use. Just ignore it.
Q: The Letnev crew disk "Navigator," the Sardakk N'orr crew disk "Emergency Technician," and the mercenary crew disk "Mercenary Gunner" all have the commander icon, which means they are bridge crew, even though they have no names. Is this a misprint?
A: No. All these disks are commanders.
