About Kemps' Page

There are some home games and programs for download available: from archaic games developed with QBasic and Clipper (!!!), till newer others, developed with Visual Basic for Windows 95, using DirectX, etc...

Historical

Till now, the newest game is"O Homem-Pássaro" (The Bird-Man), developed by a team (of which I am a constituent...) of my class. It is a ambitious like ship game (like those ancient arcades, e.g. Xevious), for Windows 95. It uses DirectX (at least version 2).

Before this game, I've developed Pac-Man 32, that uses only the (few) Visual Basic's resources for animation and sounds. So, to play a background music and the sound fx at the same time - Visual Basic's sound resources can play only one wave file at the same time -, the music must be Midi type. It causes some troubles, like the long time to start and restar the music, the Midi-type music quality changes from computer to computer, etc.

Over and above this, you can play onlye one wave at the same time. It probably causes in an action game like "O Homem-Pássaro" many problems.

How we did resolve this problem? We had to learn (by Internet) how to use Direct Sound, from DirectX, to play various sounds at the same time!
