In 1966 Renault delivered 738.000 vehicles of which 333.000 where sold abroad.

1967

Renaults were assembled on every continent: there were 5 assembly plants in Europe, excluding France, one in Canada, , nine in Latin America, five in Africa, one in Australia, one in Asia, with others still to open in Romania and Malaysia.

1968

Renault 6 was born. It was a grown-up R4 or a junior R16, it was something in between and sadly it never gained same kind of popularity than its elder sister R16 or R4. R6 had a 850cc engine, a development of the Dauphine-Gordini unit (38 bhp/5000rpm).
This is what the press said about R6:"no matter how hard you push this engine, it never feels stressed", "I am convinced that one could come to love it (about the gearbox and the gear-shift)"

1969

over 1 million vehicles were built and more than 500.000 were exported. Project 117 was launched at Paris Motor Show: R12. The idea of the project was to make a car which was economical, spacious and had a big trunk, and it could be assembled all
over the world. In Romania R12 was called Dacia and in Brazil it was called Corcel.

One of Renault's biggest successes is launched: R5. R5 was was born by accident when BouÈ , one of the designers at Renault found a picture of the R4. He started to draw on it and all the sudden he saw a whole new car; this one was lower, wider,
rounder and more compact. He showed the drawing to his collegues Georges and Pros-Dame, who also fell in love with this new car. It took only two days to make a realsize model of the drawing (as a comparison I can tell you that 27 models were made
before R6 was in production.), and from there directly to the production. And people (and the press) loved it. R5 was a huge success but he who was responsible for this "very lucky accident", he didn't get to see the consequences because he died in cancer just before R5 was launched.
