Video Astrophotography E-mail
Discussion Group & Resource

VIDEOASTRO is an international group of amateur and professional astronomers primarily interested in equipment and techniques for video astronomy and high resolution video capture astrophotography.  This includes but is not limited to video imaging the sun, moon and planets, deeps sky objects, meteors and satellites.  Equipment discussions cover the gambit from telescopes, simple consumer camcorders, video surveillance cameras, to the latest frame integrating video systems for deep sky viewing and imaging.  All levels of experience are represented, and newcomers are always welcome.

This web site is a resource made up of contributions by the members of the VIDEOASTRO E-mail discussion group and includes an extensive gallery index, articles and a video astronomy related links page.

The E-mail List and web site are owned and maintained by Jim Ferreira, Livermore CA-USA  -- ferreira1@llnl.gov or BakerSt@comcast.net   Be sure to visit my personal Video Capture Astrophotography web site at http://www.lafterhall.com/astro.html

THIS IS VIDEO ASTRONOMY!!!
.
This magnificent image of Plato revealing some 40 plus craterlets on the crater's floor was shot by Steve Keene of Columbus, Ohio with a Coulter 13 Dobsonian and Sony Digital 8 camcorder.  Steve works with the camcorder in an afocal configuration, essentially focusing the camcorder lens on the exit pupil of the telescope eyepiece.   600 individual video frames were stacked with Registax to create this image, and adjusted for contrast, brightness and sharpness in Adobe Photoshop.
