I use the Lumicon 1.5 A solar filter on a 90
mm f/15 Tasco refractor The objective lens has been stopped to 62
mm. At the prime focus of the scope is mounted a Sony Hyper HAD color
video camera. The signal is stored on Hi-8 video tape in a Sony TRV
81 camcorder. From there I am capturing the images either by a Snappy
or the Flash Bus MV Light grabber. I use Photoshop to further process
the image using unsharp masking and adjusting the levels. The black
solar mask is placed over the over exposed white solar surface part of
the image. I like this because it reminds me of several total solar
eclipses that I have observed. I think it also helps your eye
to focus on the prominence and not on the over exposed white image.
The image that I am attaching was taken on February 5, 2000, several hours
prior to the large flare of that same day. I just was not lucky enough
to be observing then. May be next time.
