RUPES RECTA
"The Straight Wall"

.
.
The crater Birt casts a double shadow across Rupes Recta in this sunset image.  Though Birt and neighboring crater Birt A appear relatively rimless in the mid afternoon image below and early morning light image below right, the image above suggests there is some elevation to the crater rim.  A small notch in the elevated section of the rim is apparent, allowing sunlight to reach the wall dividing the shadow. This close up image from the photo below left clearly shows the the small bulge in Birt presumably caused by the the later impact of Birt A.  Not apparent in this image is the elevation of Birt's rim or the gap in that rim.  The image at left suggests that the gap is somewhere in the bulge region.
