| The crater Birt casts a double shadow across
Rupes Recta in this sunset image. Though Birt and neighboring crater
Birt A appear relatively rimless in the mid afternoon image below and early
morning light image below right, the image above suggests there is some
elevation to the crater rim. A small notch in the elevated section
of the rim is apparent, allowing sunlight to reach the wall dividing the
shadow. |
This close up image from the photo below left
clearly shows the the small bulge in Birt presumably caused by the the
later impact of Birt A. Not apparent in this image is the elevation
of Birt's rim or the gap in that rim. The image at left suggests
that the gap is somewhere in the bulge region.
