The Allman Brothers Live:1971

Live at Syria Mosque, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, January 17, 1971

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 80 Minutes

Set List:

Statesboro Blues, Trouble No More, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Midnight Rider, You Don't Love Me, Whipping Post

Comments: A great sounding recording of a HOT show! The band is incredibly on, and while the initial songs are short and funky, Elizabeth Reed is a soaring jam, and Berry's bass is particularly aggressive. You Don't Love Me is transformed into a muscular workout for everyone, including a great rockabilly style jam in the middle. Whipping Post is a great closing number for this show. Some of these performances I think are hotter than the ones released on the Live at Fillmore East 1971 album!

Live at the Fillmore West, San Francisco, California, January 31, 1971

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Staesboro Blues, Trouble No More, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Midnight Rider, Hoochie Coochie Man, Dreams, You Don't Love Me, Hot 'Lanta, Whipping Post

Comments: A really great show! They play the numbers differently every time so each show sounds different. The guitar and drum duels in You Don't Love Me are amazing and the rhythm section plows straight ahead during any guitar or organ solos, making the jams great to listen to...nothing boring going on here! An excellent version of Midnight Rider, with the spine-chilling slide licks from Duane, and an unreal jam on In Memory of Elizabeth Reed are highlights of an all-around excellent show!

Live at Brewer Fieldhouse, St. Louis, Missouri, February 28, 1971

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Hot 'Lanta, Dreams, You Don't Love Me, Statesboro Blues, Trouble No More, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Midnight Rider, Whipping Post

Comments: An excellent show played with guts. It seems pointless elaborating with superlatives, as every show from this year seems to be inspired and fiery! Dreams is very long and simply beautiful and the extended jams of You Don't Love Me and Whipping Post are just excellent. There is a slight cut at the very beginning of Elizabeth Reed but that song is awesome too. Great show.

Live at the Warehouse, New Orleans, Louisiana, March 19, 1971

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 20 Minutes

Set List:

You Don't Love Me, Whipping Post

Comments: All that exists so far from this show, but excellent jams on these two songs. You Don't Love Me is great and Whipping Post, although incomplete (unfortunately), is great and really starts to cook after the main section. Where's the rest!?

Live at the Warehouse, New Orleans, Louisiana, March 20, 1971

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 2 Hours

Set List:

Statesboro Blues, Trouble No More, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', Done Somebody Wrong, One Way Out, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Midnight Rider, Hoochie Coochie Man, Hot 'Lanta, You Don't Love Me, Revival, Stormy Monday, Mountain Jam, Whipping Post, Don't Want You No More, It's Not My Cross to Bear

Comments: A great long set that shows the band playing their hearts out....words cannot describe this show! Amazing guitar playing, great organ solos, amazing drumming and Berry's thundering bass plowing throughout all this. The long set allows for showcase jams and improvisations, and none of them fail to excite or ignite! Blues, jazz, and rock are all melded here with a deftness that is so hard to find...this show rocks! Recommended!

Live at the Fillmore East, New York City, New York, June 27, 1971

Sound: Very good soundboard

Time: Approx. 1 Hour

Set List:

Statesboro Blues, One Way Out, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Whipping Post, You Don't Love Me

Comments: This was the last ever show played at the Fillmore and the Allman Brothers close it out with a great performance, playing their hearts out and improvising wonderfully. This is a wonderful document from when they were at their peak as a live band and any fan should have this.

Live at Municipal Auditorium, Atlanta, Georgia, July 17, 1971

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Statesboro Blues, Trouble No More, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', Done Somebody Wrong, One Way Out, Midnight Rider, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Hot 'Lanta, You Don't Love Me, Whipping Post

Comments: A blistering show in front of a home crowd. The sound is absolutely great and the band plays with amazing guts. The jam in You Don't Love Me is jaw dropping and the entire show contains great ensemble paying. The band is so tight on the opening string of short numbers that it sounds like one person fused out of all 6 musicians. This was Duane's last Atlanta show, and it's a great one!

Live at A&R Studios, New York City, New York, August 26, 1971

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Statesboro Blues, Trouble No More, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', Done Somebody Wrong, One Way Out, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Stormy Monday, You Don't Love Me, Hot 'Lanta

Comments: A live concert recorded and broadcast on WPLJ, New York City, this show is smoking! This is classic, absolutely stunning. The playing is amazing, on every level, from jazz, to blues to full tilt rock, and the show is one of the best I have heard by the band. Even includes original DJ comments before and after the show...recommended!

Live at the Warehouse, New Orleans, Louisiana, September 16, 1971

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 3 Hours

Set List:

Statesboro Blues, Trouble No More, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', Done Somebody Wrong, One Way Out, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Stormy Monday, Hot 'Lanta, Blue Sky, Midnight Rider, You Don't Love Me, Whipping Post, Revival, Mountain Jam

Comments: A great, long show that really lets the band stretch out their chops and throw in some more obscure material, like the great versions of Blue Sky and Revival, rarely done live! The band is extremely tight and the long jams are amazing. The shorter songs in the opening of the show are great too, including some great compact guitar solos in the first 4. The harmony guitars are tight, the drums and bass lock in easily and the organ and vocals lead the way. One of the best shows I have heard, in a great sounding recording, to boot!

Live at Syria Mosque, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, October 15, 1971

Sound: Good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Statesboro Blues, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', Done Somebody Wrong, One Way Out, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Hot 'Lanta, Stormy Monday, You Don't Love Me, Revival, Trouble No More

Comments: This was Duane's last ever show and I cannot think of a better way to go out! The playing is excellent as always and the solo duels and ensemble playing on the songs are just great and really, this show marks the end of the band's bets period with the original 6 members soaring in full flight. A great show.
