The Beatles: Unsurpassed Masters Vols. 1-7
Studio Outtakes 1962-1970
Sound: Excellent soundboards
Comments: This series is a wonderful one for those interested in the Beatles' process in the studio, including unreleased versions of songs, studio chatter, and completely finished songs that were never released. Essential as a document of a great band in the studio.
Let It Be Sessions Vol.1
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 35 Minutes
Tracks:
The Walk, Oh! Darling, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Across the Universe, Gone Gone Gone, Wake Up in the Morning, She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, Sausages and French Fries, Stand By Me, Harry Pinsker, Two of Us
Comments: This is a good document of these turbulent times for the Beatles. Some songs sound like they are just in the early stages and others, such as the electric version of Two of Us, are completely different. The full band, electric version of Across the Universe is cool.
Acetates
Sound: Good to very good soundboard/Studio
Time: Approx. 45 Minutes
Tracks:
Bad to Me, One and One is Two, Twelve Bar Original, A Day in the Life, Magical Mystery Tour, The Fool on the Hill, Blue Jay Way, Your Mother Should Know, I am the Walrus, Christmas Time is Here Again, Goodbye, Something, I Me Mine
Comments: This is a wonderful collection of personal demos and acetate disc from the Beatles personal collections, including songs they wrote for other artists that they demoed and neat versions of future classics...this is a great one to have.
Unsurpassed White Album Demos
Sound: Good to very good home recordings
Time: Approx. 70 Minutes
Tracks:
Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, Bungalow Bill, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I'm So Tired, Blackbird, Piggies, Rocky Raccoon, Not Guilty, Junk, Julia, Yer Blues, Mother Nature's Son, Everybody's Got Something to Hide 'Cept for Me and My Monkey, Sexy Sadie, Sour Milk Sea, Revolution, Honey Pie, Cry Baby Cry, What's the New Mary Jane, Circles, Child of Nature, Julia
Comments: This is a wonderful collection of the White Album demos from George's house in early 1968. Although many of the excellent full-band versions can be found on Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 4, these early demos are quite enjoyable and different. Worth the excellent acoustic versions and also unreleased compositions, such as George's Sour Milk Sea, Not Guilty (excellent full band version on Unsurpassed Masters Vol.4), Circles, and Child of Nature by John and Junk by Paul, all to appear on future solo albums.
