Blur: Live 1994:
Live in 1994 "Modrophenia"
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 1 Hour
Set List:
Electric: Girls and Boys, Parklife, Bank Holiday, London Loves, Chemical World, Advert, Jubilee, Popscene, Girls and Boys, For Tomorrow
Acoustic: Sunday Sunday, Parklife, Jubilee, For Tomorrow
Comments: This is a collection of Blur live in 1994. It is quite good, with London Loves being quite a rarity for concerts! There are some great versions of Chemical World and Jubilee, and the first For Tomorrow with the choir is excellent. The 4 acoustic tracks are excellent as well.
Live at the Simon May Show, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 4 Minutes
Set List:
Parklife
Comments: A great acoustic version of Parklife from the recently released album of the same name.
Live at Rennes Festival, Sweden, April 15, 1994
Sound: Good to very good audience (with very slight speed fluctuations)
Time: Approx. 1 Hour
Set List:
Lot 105, Sunday Sunday, Colin Zeal, Jubilee, She's So High, London Loves, There's No Other Way, For Tomorrow, Coping, Girls and Boys, Chemical World, Popscene, Parklife, Advert
Comments: This is Blur's complete set from this festival, and it's a very good show, although Damon seems to alternate between being nice to the crowd and taunting them....it's quite amusing to listen to though. This is a very early show for most of the Parklife material, and the crowd isn't familiar with a lot of it. London Loves is played and it sounds really good, and Jubilee and Girls and Boys aren't received as ecstatically as they will be, simply because they are new to the crowd. For Tomorrow is great, and Chemical World and Colin Zeal are powerful as always. Damon keeps saying thank you in French and mentioning his French, so the date and venue may not be right, although they are always attributed to this show.
Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire, London, England, May 26, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Sunday Sunday, Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, She's So High, Girls and Boys, London Loves, Trouble in the Message Centre, Chemical World, Popscene, To the End, Advert, Anniversary Waltz, End of a Century, Parklife, There's No Other Way, For Tomorrow, Bank Holiday, This is a Low
Comments: This is a very high-energy show showcasing the material off of Parklife early on in its lifetime. There is still a nice selection of material from Modern Life, especially great versions of Sunday Sunday and For Tomorrow. London Loves and Trouble in the Message Centre are performed back to back, a rarity especially as the former was only performed a handful of times anyway! Great show.
Live at Glastonbury Festival, England, June 26, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard (off radio, including ads!) or excellent soundboard (no ads, complete show)
Time: Approx. 45 Minutes/65 Minutes
Set List:
Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, Magic America, End of a Century, For Tomorrow, Chemical World, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Parklife, Girls and Boys, Bank Holiday, This Is a Low
Comments: This is a GREAT show...it is so full of energy that it just sort of bombards you from the speakers. Jubilee is monstrous and Bank Holiday is so brutal you can't believe there'd be anything left standing after. Damon growls the lyrics....what a show!
Live at the Town and Country Club, Leeds, England, June 31, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 30 Minutes
Set List:
Lot 105, Jubilee, Girls and Boys, Popscene, Advert, End of a Century, Parklife, Bank Holiday, This is a Low
Comments: This is another high-energy show, although somewhat shorter. Jubilee is really pounding and Girls and Boys is funkier than usual thanks to some great bass/drum interplay. This Is a Low is gorgeous, as always on this tour. Great show.
Live at Dour Festival, Belgium, July 10, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 1 Hour
Set List:
Lot 105, Jubilee, Tracey Jacks, Magic America, The Debt Collector, End of a Century, For Tomorrow, Chemical World, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Parklife, Girls and Boys, Bank Holiday
Comments: A pretty good show. The crowd doesn't seem too too into it, but I can't tell if that's them or the soundboard recording being too clear. The band seems real nervous, and Damon's banter seems hurried and nervous. There are some great moments like the short and concise For Tomorrow that really rocks, and the great versions of There's No Other Way and Advert.
Live on the Mark Radcliffe Session, August 3, 1994
Sound:
Time: Approx. 30 Minutes
Set List:
Sunday Sunday, For Tomorrow, Starshaped, Jubilee, Girls and Boys, Trouble In the Message Centre
Comments: a mix of acoustic and electric tracks. Not sure if they are from the same session but until I find out, that's how I will list them. Starshaped is one of my favorite Blur songs and was rarely, if ever played live. Sounds nice.
Live at Nullo Parte Ailleurs, Paris, France, August 27, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 5 Minutes
Set List:
Girls and Boys
Comments: GREAT version of the opening track from Parklife. This is a really good version that is longer and heavier than the album version.
Live at Mercury Music Awards Show, England, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 10 Minutes
Set List:
Parklife, Girls and Boys, End of a Century
Comments: Three very good live versions for this awards show. End of a Century is a really pretty version and Girls and Boys is a fast paced and funky live version.
Live at the Academy, New York City, New York, September 10, 1994
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Lot 105, Sunday Sunday, Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, Magic America, End of a Century, Popscene, Trouble In the Message Centre, For Tomorrow, Chemical World, Badhead, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Supa Shopper, Mr. Robinson's Quango, Parklife, Girls and Boys, Bank Holiday, This Is a Low
Comments: A fast paced and energetic show in front of what sounds like a small crowd. The set progresses normally, and then Trouble In the Message Centre is thrown in....very nice. Also, Damon says this is the first ever time they've played Badhead, and Mr. Robinson's Quango is announced as forthcoming off the new album. This Is a Low is a beautiful version. This set list mirrors those of later 1994 shows, but it was sent to me as being this date and it is reasonable so that's where I'll put it.
Live at the Venus de Milo, Boston, Massachusetts, September 13, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 75 Minutes
Set List:
Sunday Sunday, Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, Magic America, End of a Century, Popscene, For Tomorrow, Chemical World, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Parklife, Supa Shopper, Girls and Boys, Bank Holiday, This Is a Low
Comments: This is a very good show. The crowd sounds small and Damon makes reference to the fact that they have a small crowd. For Tomorrow is a great version and This Is a Low brought tears to the eyes...simply gorgeous. The rest of the show is good as well. Supa Shopper is done probably for the first time live, and a shortened version of Sunday Sunday opens the show. It must have bothered Blur that in the UK and Europe they were the biggest group, yet in America they were unknowns who couldn't fill a club. Popscene from this show itself is breathtaking!
Live at WNNX Theatre, Atlanta, Georgia, September 18, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 30 Minutes
Set List:
End of a Century, Jubilee, Parklife, For Tomorrow, She's So High
Comments: This is an all acoustic and drums performance and the songs sound really nice in this setting. For Tomorrow is amazing. Proof that it is one of Blur's best songs ever. I have heard it acoustically and electrically and everywhere in between and it's never short of amazing. Great mini show with crisp sound.
Live at WDRE Radio, Dallas, Texas, September 21, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 15 Minutes
Set List:
Jubilee, Parklife, Girls and Boys, End of a Century
Comments: Three very good acoustic versions for a radio session. Girls and Boys sounds very different in an all acoustic setting but it works!
Live at the Phoenix, Toronto, Canada, September 28, 1994
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Lot 105, Sunday Sunday, Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, Magic America, End of a Century, Popscene, Trouble In the Message Centre, For Tomorrow, Chemical World, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Supa Shopper, Mr. Robinson's Quango, Parklife, Girls and Boys, Bank Holiday, This Is a Low
Comments: This was the last show of Blur's fall American Tour and it's solid from start to finish. Very little talking from Damon and the band but the playing is as solid as ever. Popscene is an explosion and Trouble In the Message Centre sounds great before a wistful For Tomorrow. The entire show is just rock solid and ends with a gorgeous reading of This Is a Low. Nice crowd atmosphere too!
Live at Aston Villa Leisure Center, Birmingham, England, October 5, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Lot 105, Sunday Sunday, Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, Magic America, End of a Century, Popscene, Trouble In the Message Centre, She's So High, For Tomorrow, Chemical World, Badhead, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Supa Shopper, Mr. Robinson's Quango, Parklife, Girls and Boys, Bank Holiday, This Is a Low
Comments: A very good and energetic show. The sound is excellent and after Lot 105, the band rocks into a great version of Sunday Sunday. The stripped down live set showcases the awesome guitar playing of Graham and Alex and Dave's pummeling beat! Graham and Damon have really excellent vocal harmonies too, and there is a great mix of material, mostly from Modern Life Is Rubbish and Parklife, and even a brand new song done on stage, Mr. Robinson's Quango, which would appear on the next album. A great version of This Is a Low closes the show. Awesome!
Live at Alexandra Palace, London, England, October 7, 1994
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Comments: This was, at the time, Blur's biggest show to date and the feeling of that definitely comes across in this recording. Except for some absurdly stupid girls singing idiotically and out of tune near the recorder, the sound is great and the playing is too. Very brutal, and Trouble in the Message Centre is a great version. Mr. Robinson's Quango is musically mature although all the lyrics except for the choruses are completely different. This Is a Low is excellent.
Live at Oslo, Norway, November 3, 1994
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Lot 105/ Ernold Same, Sunday,Sunday, Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, Magic America, End of a Century, Popscene, Chemical World, Badhead, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Supa Shopper, Parklife, Girls and Boys, Mr. Robinson's Quango, The Debt Collector, Bank Holiday, This Is a Low
Comments: A very good late 1994 show with some surprises. Bits of Ernold Same are played after Lot 105, and There's No Other Way has an unusual false ending before starting up again and finishing properly. Mr. Robinson's Quango is still the early, different version. The rest of the show is a typical great 1994 Blur show, and This Is a Low is a great closer, as always. Chemical World followed by Badhead is great in the middle of the set.
Live at the Factory, Milan, Italy, November 12, 1994
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 75 Minutes
Set List:
Lot 105/Ernold Same, Coping, Jubilee, Popscene, Tracy Jacks, End of a Century, Chemical World, Badhead, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Supa Shopper, Parklife, Girls and Boys, The Debt Collector, Bank Holiday, This Is a Low
Comments: This is a very good show, although after the first few songs, the power cuts out and Damon speaks with the crowd until it comes back on a minute or so later. Bank Holiday is fast and rocks HARD, and there are some treats, like a great version of the rarely played Badhead, and good versions of Advert and Chemical World. A nice This Is a Low ends with a howl of feedback.
Live at Club Kawasaki, Citta, Japan, November 19, 1994
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Lot 105, Coping, Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, Magic America, End of a Century, Popscene, Chemical World, Badhead, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Supa Shopper, Parklife, Colin Zeal, For Tomorrow, Girls and Boys, Mr. Robinson's Quango, The Debt Collector, Bank Holiday, This Is a Low
Comments: This is an excellent show in front of a boisterous Japanese crowd. Coping is a great start to the show.....very different from Sunday,Sunday, which usually started the 1994 sets proper before the November shows. Badhead is great.....I always love hearing this song done live, however infrequently it was. For Tomorrow is a great version and Mr. Robinson's Quango is another early version that rocks more than the final album version, which is a little more ska-ish. This Is a Low is a very good version that closes out the show.
Live at Shibuya Kokaido, Tokyo, Japan, November 26, 1994
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Intermission, Sunday Sunday, Coping, Jubilee, Tracy Jacks, Magic America, Happy Birthday, The Tuning Song, Ernold Same, End of a Century, Popscene, Trouble In the Message Centre, Chemical World, Badhead, There's No Other Way, To the End, Advert, Supa Shopper, Parklife
Comments: In front of a really loud crowd, Blur gives a loose and energetic show. End of a Century is severely out of tune, so the band plays Happy Birthday to some crew members and then ad-libs a silly song called The Tuning Song, which they made up on the spot. Damon then plays Ernold Same on the keyboard before they start back in to the set! Great versions of Chemical World and Advert. My only qualm with this show is it is missing the encore section......but what can you do but take what you can get!
Live at Jools Hootenanny, London, England, December 31, 1994
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: 2 Minutes
Set List:
Bank Holiday
Comments: A VERY fast and furious version of this great punky hard rocker from Parklife.
