Blur: Live 1995

Live at Mile End Stadium, London, England, June 17, 1995

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

The Debt Collector, Tracy Jacks, Sunday Sunday, Chemical World, End of a Century, She's So High, Globe Alone, Popscene, Supa Shopper, Magic America, Country House, Jubilee, Badhead, To the End, Advert, Girls and Boys, Stereotypes, Far Out, Bank Holiday, For Tomorrow, Parklife, Daisy Bell, This Is a Low

Comments: This is an incredibly famous gig, where Blur previewed almost half of the upcoming The Great Escape album. This show itself is very good, with the Parklife songs sounding good and strong onstage, showcasing the band's versatility. The new songs sound good too, and the crowd goes nuts for the older ones. The sound is very good as well, and this famous show is, while not the definitive live Blur, a damn good gig!

Live at Milton Keynes Bowl, England, July 29, 1995

Sound: Excellent audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Intermission, There's No Other Way, Charmless Man, Tracy Jacks, Sunday Sunday, Chemical World, End of a Century, Globe Alone, Popscene, Supa Shopper, Stereotypes, Jubilee, Badhead, To the End, Advert, Girls and Boys, Country House, Bank Holiday, For Tomorrow, Parklife, This Is a Low

Comments: This is a very good show, although some spots of it are quite sluggish. Blur opened for R.E.M. the first of their two nights at this festival. I have R.E.M.'s show from the following night. The playing is good although the keyboard player messes up a few times and Damon misses some words. Sunday Sunday is a great version though, and by the time Popscene rolls around, the band is in fine form and delivers a brutal Bank Holiday before the gorgeous This Is a Low. Very good show.

Live at Feile 95 Festival, Cork, Ireland, August 5, 1995

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Intermission, Tracy Jacks, Charmless Man, Sunday Sunday, Chemical World, End of a Century, Globe Alone, Popscene, Supa Shopper, Stereotypes, Jubilee, Badhead, To the End, Advert, Girls and Boys, Country House, Bank Holiday, For Tomorrow, Parklife, This Is a Low

Comments: This is a much better festival show than the R.E.M. support show listed above. That show was good, but this one is damn good! Tracy Jacks takes off right from the beginning and this show seems a lot better already. Great playing, and Popscene is vicious! A really good country House leads into some speed punk before brilliant versions of For Tomorrow and This Is a Low, and Damon constantly makes fun of Queen (who I cannot stand!) this whole show.

Live at the Paris Theatre, London, England, September 7, 1995

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 25 Minutes

Set List:

Top Man, Mr. Robinson's Quango, Charmless Man, It Could Be You, Stereotypes, Country House, The Universal

Comments: A really excellent show promoting the recently released The Great Escape album. The songs sound great live, and the stage brings out nuances and different qualities absent in the recorded versions. This is great stuff.

Live at The Warehouse, Toronto, Canada, October 1, 1995

Sound: Excellent Soundboard

Time: Approx. 80 Minutes

Set List:

The Great Escape, Charmless Man, Popscene, End of a Century, Mr. Robinson's Quango, To the End, Fade Away, Stereotypes, Supa Shopper, Girls and Boys, Country House, He Thought of Cars, Parklife, Globe Alone, The Universal

Comments: An excellent sounding recording of an excellent show. I particular like the powerful version of Charmless Man after The Great Escape. Fade Away and He Thought of Cars are two nice versions of rarely played numbers from The Great Escape, and Mr. Robinson's Quango is one of the best versions, with Alex really playing around with the bass line and doing some amazing things.

Live at Falkoner Theatre, Copenhagen, Denmark, October 17, 1995

Sound: Very good audience (with severe speed fluctuations)

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

The Great Escape, Charmless Man, Jubilee, Popscene, End of a Century, Tracy Jacks, Mr. Robinson's Quango, To the End, Fade Away, It Could Be You, Stereotypes, Supa Shopper, Girls and Boys, Advert, Bank Holiday, Country House, This Is a Low, Entertain Me, He Thought of Cars, Parklife, Globe Alone, The Universal

Comments: this show has one of the best setlists I have ever seen...all but 5 songs from The Great Escape are played live, and the playing is excellent throughout. However, there are severe speed wobbles throughout that make the enjoyment of this show nearly impossible if not for the fact that I am a die-hard Blur fan! This is one for the hardcore collector, although it does have a great setlist and playing.

Live at Stockholm, Sweden, October 19, 1995

Sound: Excellent audience

Time: Approx. 45 Minutes

Set List:

Charmless Man, To the End, Stereotypes, Supa Shopper, Girls and Boys, Country House, This Is a Low, Entertain Me, Parklife, The Universal

Comments: This is an excellent and rocking show. Entertain Me has some incredible bass from Alex, and one of the best versions of Charmless Man I have ever heard opens it up. I don't think this is the entire show, although there are no edits to suggest it is cut that much. Stereotypes is quite good as well. If this isn't complete, where's the rest!?

Live at the Docks, Hamburg, Germany, October 23, 1995

Sound: Excellent audience

Time: Approx. 100 Minutes

Set List:

The Great Escape, Charmless Man, Jubilee, Popscene, End of a Century, Tracy Jacks, Mr. Robinson's Quango, Mack the Knife, To the End, Fade Away, It Could Be You, Stereotypes, Supa Shopper, Girls and Boys, Advert, Bank Holiday, Country House, This Is a Low, Entertain Me, He Thought of Cars, Parklife, Coping, Globe Alone, The Universal

Comments: This is an excellent show. There are many similarities to the Budokan gig but this one seems more satisfying on the whole. Fade Away is a rarity and very good. He Thought of Cars is perhaps the best version I have ever heard, and Entertain Me contains some of Alex's amazing bass. Damon teases the crowd quite a lot, but the smaller horn section they brought along makes for a more intimate gig relying a lot more on the band's playing, and it shines through nicely. The Universal is gorgeous and a great conclusion to the show.

Live at Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan, November 8th, 1995

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 100 Minutes

Set List:

The Great Escape, Charmless Man, Jubilee, Popscene, End Of a Century, Tracy Jacks, Mr. Robinson's Quango, To the End, Fade Away, It Could Be You, Stereotypes, She's So High, Girls and Boys, Advert, Intermission, Bank Holiday, For Tomorrow, Country House, This Is a Low, Supa Shoppa, Yuko and Hiro, He Thought of Cars, Chemical World, Coping, Globe Alone, Parklife, The Universal

Comments: An excellent and energetic show in an excellent sounding recording. The Great Escape songs sound excellent on tour, and this was the first tour most of them were played on. The older material sounds great too, especially a heavy version of Advert and a long For Tomorrow. A great show!

Live at The Point Depot, Dublin, Ireland, November 22, 1995

Sound: Very good audience (with some minor occasional volume fluctuations)

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

The Great Escape, Charmless Man, Tracy Jacks, Popscene, End of a Century, It Could Be You, Coping, Beard, Mr. Robinson's Quango, Jubilee, To the End, Fade Away, Chemical World, Advert, Bank Holiday, Supa Shopper, Country House

Comments: Blur's usual gig at The Point, and although some dumb girls sing too loud next to the mic, the show is very good and energetic, although Damon is constantly trying to stop the crush at the front of the stage. Charmless Man is a great opener, and they alter the order of the setlist. After a powerful Coping, bits of Beard are played until a great Mr. Robinson's Quango is played. Chemical World is one of the best versions I've heard, and Country House.....'nuff said!
