Jimi Hendrix Experience:Live 1970:
Live at Fillmore East, New York City, New York, January 1, 1970 (1st Show)
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 1 Hour
Set List:
Who Knows, Machine Gun, Them Changes, Power of Soul, Stepping Stone, Foxey Lady, Stop, Earth Blues
Comments: This is the third out of 4 Band of Gypsies shows at the Fillmore East, and the playing is great! Although Buddy Miles' singing is enough to drive anyone insane, it's that bad, his drumming is quite passable, though nothing like Mitch's. Jimi's guitar sings though....he is truly amazing, and his playing elevates even Miles' tired songs and worn out off key singing. Don't think I am being rough on these shows....they are wonderful, but it is no wonder Jimi fired Buddy 2 weeks later...he appears to be attempting to take over!
Live at Fillmore East, New York City, New York, January 1, 1970 (2nd Show)
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Stone Free, Them Changes, Power of Soul, Message to Love, Earth Blues, Machine Gun, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), We Gotta Live Together, Wild Thing, Hey Joe, Purple Haze
Comments: The final show is a long one, and really great! A blistering Stone Free opens it up and sets the pace for all to follow, including some savage playing by Jimi on Power of Soul. A rousing finale before the encores is reached with We Gotta Live Together...Jimi pushes it all to the limit. Great show!
Live at Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York, January 28, 1970
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 25 Minutes
Set List: Who Knows, Earth Blues
Comments: The last Band of Gypsies gig, Jimi walks off stage after these two songs and fires Buddy Miles, who was trying to make it the Buddy Miles Band! Good versions, but I am oh so glad Buddy is out for good.

Set List:
Spanish Castle Magic, Foxey Lady, Lover Man, Hear My Train A Comin', Message to Love, Ezy Rider, Machine Gun, Room Full of Mirrors, Hey Baby, Drum Solo, Freedom, Star Spangled Banner, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
Comments: An excellent, fast paced show in front of a rapturous crowd. The opening numbers are excellent and the medley starting with Room Full of Mirrors and ending with Freedom is an excellent extravaganza of improvisation and extended passages. A great show.
Live at University of Oklahoma Field House, Norman, Oklahoma, May 8, 1970 (2nd Show)
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Drum Solo, Fire, Drum Solo, Spanish Castle Magic, Machine Gun, Lover Man, Foxey Lady, Hear My Train A Comin', Message to Love, Red House, Star Spangled Banner, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
Comments: This is a good show, although it starts out a little lamely with the drum solo going into Fire. The tempo is wrong for the first part of it. The next few songs are good, and Machine Gun has an excellent solo from Jimi as an intro. Red House is an excellent version, although obnoxious fan clapping dogs Purple Haze. A good show overall.

Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 45 Minutes
Set List:
Message to Love, Blue Suede Shoes, Hey Baby, Earth Blues, Room Full of Mirrors, Keep On Groovin', Freedom, Power of Soul, Machine Gun
Comments: A GREAT run-through of material that would and wouldn't be played at the following concerts. The reading of Machine Gun in particular is powerful. Great stuff!

Set Lists:
Fire, Johnny B. Goode, Hear My Train A Comin', Foxey Lady, Machine Gun, Freedom, Red House, Message to Love, Ezy Rider, Star Spangled Banner, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
Comments: A great show! The excellent sound helps make this show killer, and Jimi is scorching. Check out Johnny B. Goode for some blistering playing, and his new songs Freedom and Ezy Rider sound great! Billy Cox and Mitch are amazing as well, with some incredible bass runs and drums throughout. Recommended!

Time: Approx. 100 Minutes
Set List:
Straight Ahead, Hey Baby, Lover Man, Stone Free, Hey Joe, I Don't Live Today, Machine Gun, Foxey Lady, Star Spangled Banner, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
Comments: Another amazing show! Straight Ahead and Hey Baby sound great and there are some unreal jams on Stone Free and Machine Gun. This show is exceptional for the ensemble playing and sound, and as with the first one, highly recommended!
Live at Atlanta Pop Festival, Georgia Raceway, Atlanta, Georgia, July 4, 1970
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Fire, Lover Man, Spanish Castle Magic, Room Full of Mirrors, Hear My Train A Comin', Message to Love, All Along the Watchtower, Freedom, Foxey Lady, Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Stone Free, Star Spangled Banner, Straight Ahead. Hey Baby
Comments: A really great show that starts off a little slow and sluggish but emerges as a powerhouse set. Jimi is on fire and Billy Cox adds some thunderous bass fills, sounding particularly aggressive. Mitch is, of course, amazing and the playing from the middle of the set on is just out of this world. A great gig!
Live at Haleakala Crater, Maui, Hawaii, July 30, 1970
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 110 Minutes
Set List:
Spanish Castle Magic, Lover Man, Hey Baby, In From the Storm, Message to Love, Foxey Lady, Hear My Train A Comin', Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Fire, Purple Haze, Dolly Dagger, Ezy Rider, Red House, Freedom, Beginnings, Straight Ahead, Hey Baby, Keep On Groovin', Stone Free, Hey Joe, Stone Free
Comments: Jimi's last ever show in the USA. A very good show on an excellent soundboard recording, although the vocals are buried in the mix a bit. Jimi seems to be shouting more than singing, though it sounds good nonetheless. Some really amazing guitar and bass playing, and the drums are of course fantastic from Mitch. Lots of improvisations in the middle of songs make it peculiar to listen to (the first time) but spontaneity is still interesting.
Live at the Isle of Wight Festival, East Afton Farm, Isle of Wight, England, August 30, 1970
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
God Save the Queen, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Spanish Castle Magic, All Along the Watchtower, Machine Gun, Lover Man, Freedom, Red House, Dolly Dagger, Midnight Lightning, Foxey Lady, Message to Love, Hey Baby, Ezy Rider, Hey Joe, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), In From the Storm
Comments: The last show ever played in the UK by Jimi and his band, this festival set, the day after The Who's legendary headlining show, showcases a great selection of songs from Jimi. He uses his established classics and new compositions to offer a great 2-hour show! All Along the Watchtower sounds really good live and the new songs sound really great. Billy and Mitch shine throughout and Jimi plays some incredible guitar, most notably on Red House and In From the Storm, as well as some amazing Uni-Vibe drenched figures on Hey Baby.
Live at Stora Scenen, Grona Lund, Stockholm, Sweden, August 31, 1970
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Lover Man, Catfish Blues, Ezy Rider, Come On (Let the Good Times Roll), Room Full of Mirrors, Hey Baby, Message to Love, Machine Gun, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), In From the Storm, Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, Star Spangled Banner
Comments: This is already one of my favorite Hendrix shows! The sound is crisp and a little nasty, with the guitar in the front and the bass and drums a little distorted in the back....really good! Jimi starts off a little sluggish but really catches fire and is incendiary, especially on Machine Gun and a great segue into Voodoo Child and then In From the Storm. Among the last of his concerts and a good one!
Live at Vejiby Risskov Hallen, Aarhus, Denmark, September 2, 1970
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 30 Minutes
Set List:
Freedom, Message to Love, Hey Baby
Comments: This is all that's known to exist from this show and it starts off really good with Jimi wailing on his guitar during Freedom. The fragment is too short to make any presumptions, but what is here sounds great.
Live at KB Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark, September 3, 1970
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Hey Baby, All Along the Watchtower, Ezy Rider, Red House, In From the Storm, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Sunshine of Your Love, Calling All the Devil's Children, Hey Joe, Fire
Comments: One of Hendrix's last ever shows, and a killer one at that. All Along the Watchtower is manic and Jimi's soloing is insane. Ezy Rider is good, but he really rips on Red House, and Voodoo Child is long and drawn out and just incredible...he takes the band through many sections and keeps pushing it on and on.....it's really amazing to hear. The ending is one long jam leading into each song.....good stuff.
Live at Love and Peace Festival, Fehmarn, Germany, September 6, 1970
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Killing Floor, Spanish Castle Magic, All Along the Watchtower, Hey Joe, Hey Baby, Message to Love, Foxey Lady, Red House, Ezy Rider, Freedom, Bass and Drum Solo, Room Full of Mirrors, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
Comments: This is one of the last shows Hendrix ever did before his death. It's a very good show with some killer playing and a great set list. Freedom, one of my favorites, is excellent and the first string of numbers rock hard. All Along the Watchtower is great, with Hendrix playing some of the same lines as the album cut...too bad they didn't play it live as often. The ending is blistering...Purple Haze is short and visceral and Voodoo Child is its usual self.
