Sound: Very good soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Life and How to Live It, So. Central Rain, Green Grow the Rushes, Harborcoat, Good Advices, Hyena, 7 Chinese Bros., can't get There From Here, Driver 8, Maps and Legends, Talk About the Passion, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Pretty Persuasion, I Believe, Little America, Gardening at Night, 9-9, Windout, Theme From Two Steps Onward

Comments: A really great and powerful show early on in the tour. The majority of the songs are new ones the crowd is not familiar with, and they sound great and seem to go over well. The older material is excellent, and Life and How to Live It makes a nice appearance earlier in the set than usual. Gardening at Night and 9-9 are surprise additions before a great version of Theme From Two Steps Onward.

Live at Drew University, Madison, New Jersey, April 30, 1985

Sound: Excellent audience? /soundboard?

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Harborcoat, Green Grow the Rushes, (Don't Go Back to) Rockville, Good Advices, 7 Chinese Bros., Driver 8, Pale Blue Eyes, Can't Get There From Here, Laughing, Maps and Legends, So. Central Rain, Talk About the Passion, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Pretty Persuasion, Little America, Theme from Two Steps Onward, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Life and How to Live It, California Dreamin', We Walk, Alright Now

Comments: A really great and energetic show, and only the 4th of the Preconstruction tour. The new songs sound really great live already, with Driver 8 rocking hard in particular. There are some nice surprises, like Laughing and We Walk, and the covers near the end are very unpredictable and interesting. A really great show!

Live at Stock Pavilion, Madison, Wisconsin, May 10, 1985

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Harborcoat, Green Grow the Rushes, 7 Chinese Bros., Hyena, Good Advices, Talk About the Passion, Driver 8, Can't Get There From Here, So. Central Rain, Maps and Legends, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Pretty Persuasion, Life and How to Live It, Little America, Second Guessing, Tired of Singing Trouble, (Don't Go Back to) Rockville, Just a Touch, Theme From Two Steps Onward, Gardening at Night, 9-9, Windout, Pale Blue Eyes, Have You Ever Seen the Rain

Comments: A very good and powerful show in front of an absolutely wild crowd. Almost between every song for the first half, Mike has to tell the crowd to move back, and is quite acerbic about it! Michael sounds good, but turns in a rather lazy performance, coming in late and missing lines sometimes. The power cuts out occasionally leaving the groups with either no bass or no vocals. Overall, a good and strong show, though.

Live at Paramount Theatre, Seattle, Washington, July 12, 1985

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Harborcoat, Green Grow the Rushes, Maps and Legends, Laughing, Hyena, So. Central Rain, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, West of the Fields, Can't Get There From Here, Driver 8, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Pretty Persuasion, Life and How to Live It, Little America, Second Guessing, Talk About the Passion, (Don't Go Back to) Rockville, 1,000,000, There From Two Steps Onward, Gardening at Night, Radio Free Europe

Comments: An excellent show with really crisp and great sound. The band is playing very hard, especially Bill and Mike, who are all over the place! The opening salvo of Feeling Gravitys Pull and Harborcoat rock hard, followed by a beautiful Green Grow the Rushes. Maps and Legends rocks hard, much different from its baroque and majestic sounding counterpart on record. Can't Get There From Here and Driver 8 blast the speakers and the rest of this show is just great.

Live at Syria Mosque, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, August 13, 1985

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Harborcoat, Green Grow the Rushes, Hyena, Pilgrimage, Driver 8, Fall On Me, So. Central Rain, Have You Ever Seen the Rain?, Skip a Rope, Can't Get There From Here, 7 Chinese Bros., Sitting Still, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Little America, Pretty Persuasion, Life and How to Live It, Walk-Don't Run, Femme Fatale, Second Guessing, Smokin' In the Boy's Room, Crazy, See No Evil, Theme From Two Steps Onward, Radio Free Europe

Comments: A really good and energetic show in front of a rapturous crowd! The Fables songs featured on the Reconstruction tour, sound a lot heavier and more manic when played onstage with a 4-man lineup and without overdubs. Can't Get There From Here is really strong on stage and Harborcoat is a thunderous continuation to the show after the feedback and riffing-full opener of Feeling Gravitys Pull. Fall On Me and Hyena are new songs being tried on stage for the Life's Rich Pageant album and the former contains significantly different vocals, except for the chorus. A manic Radio Free Europe is the final encore and closes this awesome show!

Live at Auditorium Theatre, Rochester, New York, August 15, 1985

Sound: Very good soundboard? /audience?

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Harborcoat, Letter Never Sent, Maps and Legends, Hyena, Driver 8, Fall On Me, Good Advices, So. Central Rain, have You Ever Seen the Rain, Can't Get There From Here, 7 Chinese Bros., Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Moral Kiosk, Pretty Persuasion, Life and How to Live It, Second Guessing, 1,000,000, Femme Fatale, Radio Free Europe, Theme From Two Steps Onward, (Don't Go Back to) Rockville

Comments: A very good show from the Reconstruction tour. Letter Never Sent is a very nice surprise early on in the set, and Maps and Legends is powerful and gorgeous. Fall On Me is the early version with the completely different vocal melody, and Can't Get There From Here rocks! The last three songs are good and my favorite is Theme From Two Steps Onward, which alternates between eerie and beautiful refrains.

Live at Barrymore's, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, August 17, 1985

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 2 Hours

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Radio Free Europe, Letter Never Sent, Pills, Can't Get There From Here, 7 Chinese Bros., Laughing, Driver 8, Maps and Legends, Fall On Me, Have You Ever Seen the Rain?, West of the Fields, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Pretty Persuasion, Moral Kiosk, Life and How to Live It, Moon River, I Can't Control Myself, 1,000,000, I Can Only Give You Everything, Tired of Singing Trouble, Boy(Go), Paint It Black, In the Year 2525, Smokin' In the Boys Room, Sweet Home Alabama, Stepping Stone, Secret Agent Man, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, God Save the Queen, Roadrunner, 20th Century Boy, Skank, Carnival of Sorts (Box Cars)

Comments: This is one of the MOST legendary shows R.E.M. ever played. When Pills is the fourth song of the set, you know something's gonna happen! The set is great and rocks hard, and Letter Never Sent is an early high point. A heckler shouts at the stage during Moon River and Mike and Michael, and later Peter all threaten to beat him up after the show and make fun of him! Then they embark on cover after cover, some sounding great and some very spontaneous and unrehearsed...quite an exciting show! A classic.

Live at Hammersmith Palais, London, England, October 28, 1985

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 110 Minutes

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Harborcoat, Green Grow the Rushes, Maps and Legends, Pilgrimage, Driver 8, Sitting Still, Good Advices, John the Revelator, So. Central Rain, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Can't Get There From Here, 7 Chinese Bros., Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Pretty Persuasion, Life and How to Live It, Second Guessing, (Don't Go Back to) Rockville, Tired of Singing trouble, Toys In the Attic, What's New,Pussycat?, Radar Love, Burning Hell, Talk About the Passion, Little America

Comments: A Great show that starts off rather terse before loosening up into a hard rocking concert! All of the band's original material sounds great, especially the fast and hard Can't Get There From Here and the speed pop of Life and How to Live It. After some amazing heavy metal covers of Toys In the Attic and Radar Love, a great version of Burning Hell is played. Great show!

Live at Hammersmith Palais, London, England, October 29, 1985

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Moral Kiosk, Letter Never Sent, Laughing, Maps and Legends, Driver 8, Fall On Me, Can't Get There From Here, 7 Chinese Bros., West of the Fields, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Old Man Kensey, Gardening at Night, Radio Free Europe, We Walk, Pretty Persuasion, See No Evil

Comments: This is a very good show although Michael sounds quite hoarse and is sometimes silly, goofing around with lyrics and some songs. The band plays great, however. Fall On Me has the pre-1986 treatment where the music is the same as the final version, with a different vocal arrangement and lyrics from Michael, before it was hammered into its final form. See No Evil is an awesome encore, following Pretty Persuasion without a beat in between. Great sound too.

Live at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia, December 6, 1985

Sound: Good to very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Feeling Gravitys Pull, Harborcoat, Maps and Legends, Pilgrimage, Talk About the Passion, Sitting Still, (All I Have to Do Is) Dream, Driver 8, Swan Swan H, (Don't Go Back to) Rockville, Tired of Singing Trouble, So. Central Rain, Time After Time (AnnElise), Can't Get There From Here, Pretty Persuasion, Old Man Kensey, Life and How to Live It, Toys in the Attic, Second Guessing, Bandwagon, See No Evil

Comments: a very good and manic show during a stretch where the band was definitely getting burnt out....they had been on the road the better part of a year and the end was near. The set is really nice, but serious crowd problems force them to stop and yell after each song. Dream through Time After Time are done drumless with acoustic instruments to calm the crowd. Then they rock out! Toys in the Attic rips and Pretty Persuasion is given the punk treatment. Bandwagon is rare to see live, and a rockin' See No Evil closes this solid show.
