Comments: This is a very good and lively show, and there are plenty of treats, like a very early version of The One I love, The Flowers of Guatemala which wasn't played live often, and Bandwagon, one of my favorite b-sides, gets a rare live airing here! Even Michael doesn't recall how to begin it! This was only the 3rd show of Pageantry but it's a very good show.
Live at Fair Park Bandshell, Dallas, Texas, September 20, 1986
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
These Days, Harborcoat, Hyena, We Walk, The One I Love, Cuyahoga, Shaking Through, Driver 8, The Flowers of Guatemala, Harpers, I Believe, Swan Swan H, Superman, Can't Get There From Here, Old Man Kensey, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Little America, Fall On Me, Strange, Begin the Begin, Talk About the Passion, Funtime, Just a Touch
Comments: This is a very good show, although the first few minutes are taken up by Michael yelling at the crowd to calm down and not cause a huge crush in front. These Days is a particularly good version, with Michael grunting during the instrumental middle. Hyena rocks hard, and We Walk is a welcome addition so early in the set. The playing is really excellent, and towards the end of the show the band really rocks. Funtime is excellent.
Live at Colorado University Events Center, Boulder, Colorado, October 9, 1986
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Harborcoat, Talk About the Passion, Sitting Still, The One I Love, Shaking Through, Feeling Gravitys Pull, The Flowers of Guatemala, Instrumental, Walk-Don't Run, Driver 8, I Believe, Swan Swan H, Superman, Can't Get There From Here, 7 Chinese Bros., Pretty Persuasion, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Little America, Instrumental, Oddfellows Local 151, Strange, We Walk, See No Evil, Fall On Me, Cuyahoga, Just a Touch
Comments: At first, Michael sounds very hoarse and strains to hit the higher notes but as the show progresses, his voice improves. The crowd is very rude and loud and the band constantly yells at them. The Life's Rich Pageant songs sound great, and the new ones form the as of yet unrecorded Document have different arrangements and sound great too. Overall, a good show.
Live at Kiel Opera House, St. Louis, Missouri, October 12, 1986
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
These Days, Hyena, Maps and Legends, The One I Love, We Walk, Shaking Through, Feeling Gravitys Pull, The Flowers of Guatemala, Driver 8, I Believe, Swan Swan H, 7 Chinese Bros., Superman, Can't Get There From Here, Pretty Persuasion, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Little America, Fall On Me, Cuyahoga, Sitting Still, Sloop John B, Spooky, Funtime, Oddfellows Local 151, Begin the Begin, Strange, See No Evil, So. Central Rain
Comments: Michael's voice seems to have made a recovery, and the show is really good. Maps and Legends is powerful and majestic, and two new songs for the next year's Document album are played in slightly different fashion and sound tough and aggressive. The Pageant material sounds great live, from the delicate Flowers of Guatemala to the tough opening with These Days. The encores feature quite a few covers that all sound great, and See No Evil rocks out like it always does. The plaintive, guitar and vocal only So. Central Rain is a delicate and beautiful end to this concert.
Live at Wang Center, Boston, Massachusetts, November 1, 1986
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
These Days, Harborcoat, Maps and Legends, Time After Time (AnnElise), Sitting Still, The One I Love, Feeling Gravitys Pull, The Flowers of Guatemala, White Tornado, I Believe, Swan Swan H, 7 Chinese Bros., Old Man Kensey, Pretty Persuasion, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Just a Touch, Fall On Me, Cuyahoga, Funtime, Oddfellows Local 151, Begin the Begin, Lightnin' Hopkins
Comments: This is a very aggressive sounding show, with some great playing. Maps and Legends is gorgeous and The One I Love is very strong and heavy. Michael tells a neat story before Auctioneer, and the band really reaches a high point with a great version of Fall On Me. Oddfellows Local 151 is a new song as is Lightnin' Hopkins, which has fragments of lyrics that would appear also in King of Birds.
Live at Wang Center, Boston, Massachusetts, November 2, 1986
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
These Days, Moral Kiosk, Hyena, Pilgrimage, The One I Love, Feeling Gravitys Pull, The Flowers of Guatemala, Ghost Riders in the Sky, Driver 8, Tired of Singing Trouble, I Believe, Swan Swan H, Letter Never Sent, Superman, Can't Get There From Here, 1,000,000, Pretty Persuasion, Auctioneer (Another Engine), Little America, Fall On Me, Cuyahoga, See No Evil, Oddfellows Local 151, Maps and Legends, Life and How to Live It, Lightnin' Hopkins, Begin the Begin, Kohoutek (acapella), Toys In the Attic
Comments: This is just a great show. Great sound, powerful playing, and amusing stories from Michael. The One I Love is extremely powerful, and Feeling Gravitys Pull erupts out of a feedback howl from the end of it. Maps and Legends is beautiful and Driver 8 exploded out of my speakers! The new songs to turn up on Document sound great, although somewhat different lyrically. Great show.
