R.E.M. : Live 1998

Live at Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, California, October 17, 1998

Sound: Excellent audience

Time: Approx. 45 Minutes

Set List:

Electrolite, New Test Leper, Suspicion, Daysleeper, Losing My Religion, At My Most Beautiful, Country Feedback, Man On the Moon

Comments: A very good show in front of a responsive crowd. It seems really intimate during the songs, and Suspicion sounds great with its exotic sounding guitar replacing the keyboards from the album version. Country Feedback features Neil Young on second guitar and is really intense. A personal favorite, Man On the Moon, closes the show, which was the first of the Bridge School benefits.

Live at Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, California, October 18, 1998

Sound: Excellent audience

Time: Approx. 45 Minutes

Set List:

Losing My Religion, New Test Leper, Country Feedback, Daysleeper, At My Most Beautiful, Electrolite, Everybody Hurts, Man On the Moon

Comments: Another great show. Neil Young guests on another intense version of Country Feedback, and Man On the Moon is energy packed as it ends the show. The entrance of Losing My Religion to begin the show is nothing short or dramatic. Once again an intimate feeling is present. This was the second Bridge School benefit show, the first from the day before.

Live at BBC Radio Theatre, London, England, October 25, 1998

Time: Approx. 80 Minutes

Set List:

Losing My Religion, New Test Leper, Lotus, Parakeet, Electrolite, Perfect Circle, The Apologist, Daysleeper, Country Feedback, At My Most Beautiful, Walk Unafraid, Man On the Moon

Comments: An excellent show from the European promotional tour of late 1998. The sets on this tour were always great because they included older and newer material mixed in together, and the intimate club setting makes for an incredible show. The addition of the pedal steel for Daysleeper, Country Feedback, and Man On the Moon are spine chilling. Great show.

Comments: A GREAT sounding recording and an excellent show. Right from the beautiful first chords of Losing My Religion, this show is really special and great. Country Feedback has a very unexpected and truly excellent solo from Peter. Electrolite and Lotus worked great as the follow-ups to the opening song, and the song selection is a nice one, even including the older So. Central Rain and the absolutely gorgeous version of Perfect Circle, again dedicated to Bill. Spooky is a neat cover too, really great.

Comments: Another great show. Fall On Me is a very welcome addition and sounds great as always. They also do So. Central Rain and Pretty Persuasion, which is another welcome surprise. It's nice to see the older material woven in with the more recent material from the last two albums. Overall and excellent show with great sound.

Live at Grande Hotel, Stockholm, Sweden, November 9, 1998

Sound: Excellent soundboard

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Losing My Religion, Lotus, New Test Leper, Daysleeper, Electrolite, At My Most Beautiful, The Apologist, So. Central Rain, Walk Unafraid, Man On the Moon, I'm Not Over You, Fall On Me, Parakeet, Perfect Circle, Country Feedback, Pretty Persuasion, Strange, Radio Free Europe

Comments: This show has great sound and a neat setlist. Strange is played for what I bet is a while and it rocks, while Radio Free Europe hadn't been played since 1989 I believe. The first three songs of this show set the tone....great playing and great R.E.M.
