Comments: This show was played 2 days after Jones died, and it's a great show, even though the band themselves have said they hadn't played live for almost three years by this point. Jumping Jack Flash is incredible and No Expectation sounds great in a live setting! Loving Cup is a new song finally released in 1972 on Exile and it rocks, and Midnight Rambler cooks like nobody's business in the middle! The end is quite good as well, although slightly out of tune. Sympathy For the Devil is more like the album cut and different from how they eventually performed it live.
Live at the LA Forum, Inglewood, California, November 8, 1969
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Jumping Jack Flash, Carol, Sympathy for the Devil, Stray Cat Blues, Prodigal Son, You Gotta Move, Love in Vain, I'm Free, Under My Thumb, Midnight Rambler, Live With Me, Little Queenie, Satisfaction, Honky Tonk Women, Street Fighting Man
Comments: A very good show. The sound starts off muddy and the vocals are inaudible, but it clears up nicely by the second song. There are some great versions of songs here, like Midnight Rambler, I'm Free, Under My Thumb, and a great, 1969-ized version of Satisfaction that catches the crowd off guard as well. The last two songs are great....Street Fighting Man, while great on record, is really something with Mick Taylor's added guitar flourishes.
Live at the Coliseum, Oakland, California, November 9, 1969 (1st show)
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 45 Minutes
Set List:
Jumping Jack Flash, Sympathy for the Devil, Stray Cat Blues, Prodigal Son, You Gotta Move, Love in Vain, Live With Me, Gimme Shelter, Little Queenie, Satisfaction, Honky Tonk Women, Street Fighting Man
Comments: I received this show as 11/9/69. The famous bootleg LiveR Than You'll Ever Be is the 2nd show, so until I know for sure, I put this one as the first show. This is a very good show with some tight playing, especially in Sympathy and a great version of Live With Me. Satisfaction gets funky in the middle! Good show.
Live at the Coliseum, Oakland, California, November 9, 1969 (2nd show)
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Jumping Jack Flash, Carol, Sympathy For the Devil, Stray Cat Blues, Prodigal Son, You Gotta Move, Love in Vain, I'm Free, Under My Thumb, Midnight Rambler, Live With Me, Gimme Shelter, Little Queenie, Satisfaction, Honky Tonk Women, Street Fighting Man
Comments: This is a famous show in bootleg circles for the sound quality, but the performance is excellent too! It rocks hard, and even the three slower blues numbers are well received. Midnight Rambler really cooks in the middle and Mick Taylor delivers one great guitar solo in Satisfaction, which has a funky backbeat supplied by the rhythm section at the end. All in all this is an awesome show!
Live at Sports Arena, San Diego, California, November 10, 1969
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 1 Hour
Set List:
Carol, Sympathy For the Devil, Prodigal Son, You Gotta Move, Under My Thumb, Live With Me, Little Queenie, Satisfaction, Honky Tonk Women, Street Fighting Man
Comments: This show is shorter than usual, but I don't hear any edits so I am assuming it is fairly complete. It's really good. Sympathy comes off as a real good, tight song, and Under My Thumb has some great guitar interplay over a cooking rhythm section. Live With Me and Satisfaction are great also, and the ending has some great playing, although Mick is a little hoarse, as he admits. The only bad part is Street Fighting Man being severely out of tune.
Live at Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan, November 24, 1969
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 30 Minutes
Set List:
Jumping Jack Flash, Stray Cat Blues, Love In Vain, I'm Free
Comments: This is a short fragment, with good versions of all the songs. I really can't tell the quality of the show with just these pieces but form what I can hear it sounds solid and good!
Live at Civic Center, Baltimore, Maryland, November 26, 1969
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 30 Minutes
Set List:
Honky Tonk Women, Carol, Sympathy For the Devil, Love in Vain, Under My Thumb, I'm Free
Comments: Sympathy For the Devil from this show contains a jaw dropping solo from Mick Taylor...a really tight performance. Also, Under My Thumb is a great rocker before making a seamless and startling segue into I'm Free..very effective! Good fragment from this show.
Live at Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, November 29, 1969
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 70 Minutes
Set List:
Jumping Jack Flash, Carol, Sympathy For the Devil, Stray Cat Blues, Love in Vain, Prodigal Son, You Gotta Move, Under My Thumb, Midnight Rambler, Live With Me, Little Queenie, Satisfaction
Comments: This is a particularly good show, with Mick Taylor's guitar playing really shining through. Sympathy and Stray Cat Blues are excellent examples of his great lead work, and Midnight Rambler is shorter than most versions, but still excellent. Satisfaction is also a very good version...the rocked up version rivals the classic single!
Live at Motor Speedway, West Palm Beach, Florida, November 30, 1969
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 45 Minutes
Set List:
Jumping Jack Flash, Carol, Sympathy for the Devil, Stray Cat Blues, Love in Vain, Under My Thumb, Midnight Rambler, Gimme Shelter, Live With Me
Comments: A very good show, not complete but still good. Mick Taylor plays a great blues solo in Love in Vain that really adds something special to the song. Under My Thumb is great although Keith is slightly out of tune at the beginning. Live With Mer rocks really hard too, and I wish this show was complete, as it sounds really good even though Mick Jagger keeps commenting on how cold it is (in Florida?).
Live at Altamont Speedway, Livermore, California, December 6, 1969
Sound: Good to very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
Jumping Jack Flash, Carol, Sympathy for the Devil, The Sun is Shining, Stray Cat Blues, Love in Vain, Under My Thumb, Brown Sugar, Midnight Rambler, Live With Me, Gimme Shelter, Little Queenie, Satisfaction, Honky Tonk Women, Street Fighting Man
Comments: A good, yet VERY uneasy show. The crowd around the taper is downright scary. You can hear the Stones stop the show numerous times, Mick yells at them all, and the man who was killed during Sympathy for the Devil halts the show until the doctor can arrive! The playing is very good, including a funky Sympathy and a rocking Midnight Rambler. This is also the first EVER time Brown Sugar was done live.
