Comments: This was the last public airing of the intended Lifehouse project at the Young Vic. The show is wonderful, and Too Much of Anything and Getting in Tune sound wonderful. Bony Maronie and Road Runner are super charged and the new Who's Next material is played on stage for the first times and sound excellent. A classic document of the Who during that wonderful year of 1971.

Comments: The sound is listenable but this show is a classic. Great playing. Love Ain't For Keeping and Pure and Easy are wonderful, and this contains the first out of two ever performances of the incredibly beautiful song Time is Passing. This in itself makes this show worth getting, but the rest is a classic 1971 show with Bargain getting it's first ever airing live and the top-notch material the Who had getting played to the public quite early in the year. This is one every Who collector and fan must have!!

Comments: This was the second show of the 1971 US Tour and already, a classic concert. The first rate material from Who's Next sounds excellent, and the non-album tracks like Pure and Easy and Water and I Don't Even Know Myself are excellent. Full of energy and fun, this concert is one of my favorites and a real classic.

Comments: An amazing, legendary show, and only the third of the tour! Pure and Easy lasts nearly 10 minutes and is easily the best version ever performed. After some guitar troubles in Bargain (the power keeps cutting out), Won't Get Fooled Again is of epic proportions! The second half of the set is for jamming, with long jams on Baby Don't You Do It and the blockbuster Water...all in all one of the best Who shows ever!

Comments: The first out of three nights at this venue is a great concert! The Who's sound system appears to be too loud for the small theatre-type venue but that helps make this a super sounding recording. Pete's soloing on Baby Don't You Do It is some of the best I have ever heard and the playing and singing matches the incredibly high standards of the tour. Great show!

Comments: With the sound problems now fixed, The Who turn in an incredible performance, even better than the first 2 nights, which is really saying something! Won't Get Fooled Again is towering and from Baby Don't You Do It to the end, it is full tilt rock and roll! Bargain is massively impressive and the range of material, from Pure and Easy and Behind Blue Eyes to Won't Get Fooled Again, Bargain, and My Wife, showcases The Who's prowess and immense talent.

Comments: The first show out of three at this venue and a very energetic and dynamic show. The first three songs explode and a great jamming version of Bargain is followed by a beautiful reading of Behind Blue Eyes and a towering Won't Get Fooled Again....listen to the crowd comments afterwards! Only missing 5 songs to be complete but this is all that's out there so far.

Comments: A great mid summer show from the first US 1971 Tour. This is the second of three nights at this venue and The Who turn in a classic performance, playing old and brand new songs with power and energy. My Wife is a great warm up, and the jam is amazing. Bargain is amazing and features truly excellent drumming from Keith. A rare set which has Love Ain't For Keeping in the set and all in all, including the incredible jams on Baby Don't You Do It and Naked Eye leading into Magic Bus, this is a wonderful show.

Comments: An incredible show, the last show of the first leg of the tour. The whole band is amazing, with Moon in particular shining throughout, especially in Bargain. The songs and energy just generate an immense sound and excitement, and this has to be one of the best 1971 shows by The Who. Recommended.

Comments: This set was the headline of the Goodbye Summer festival in 1971. The Who open the set with a one-off heavy metal riff that Daltrey sings to before starting the set proper. The set is charged with an incredible amount of energy and the band plow through all their new material with a vengeance. The new Who's Next material sounds good and heavy and the rest of the show is timeless Who. Sound is a little rough but very enjoyable and historical importance rules here. Besides, this is a great show!

Comments: A really charged up show in front of a wildly enthusiastic crowd. My Wife is a thunderous blockbuster and Bargain really rocks out hard. Magic Bus has some great harmonica and vocal interplay over the hypnotic beat and the ending jams of My Generation and Naked Eye are a wild and manic conclusion.

Comments: A super charged show, the last before heading off for the second US Tour. They tear through these songs with energy and excitement, and Bargain sounds so good. The Who's Next material sounds excellent on stage and the older numbers are played with such vigor that it is hard to believe that at this stage, they are 6 or 7 years old in The Who's career! Magic Bus and Baby Don't You Do It are great jams and the Tommy section sounds incredible, especially the jamming in Sparks. Recommended.

Comments: The first night of the second leg of the US Tour finds the group smoking from the start. The playing is furious and powerful and this has all the makings of a classic Who gig. Gutsy vocals, tight harmonies, incredible guitar soloing, powerful jams and killer material from Who's Next make this a first rate beginning to the second leg and an amazing gig at that!

I Can't Explain, Substitute, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again, Overture, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Naked Eye

Comments: Superb sound and a really high-energy show, even more so than some other great concerts. Bargain and My Wife rock hard and the Tommy segment into the explosive finale is enough to destroy any crowd. Great show and sound that is exceptional to hear. Listen to Keith's unreal drumming throughout.

Set List:

Baba O'Riley, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again, Baby Don't You Do It, Magic Bus, Overture, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation

Comments: A very good, tight show. The sound is great except for some tape distortion at the beginning of Baba O'Riley, lasting about 30 seconds. Bargain sounds strong although Roger seems to be a tad hoarse, but not too bad. Overture has some great guitar soloing from Pete and the rest of the show contains some incredibly powerful and tight band playing, making this a monster of a show. The thunderous My Generation closes this tight, powerful set.

Sound: Excellent audience

Time: Approx. 55 Minutes

Set List:

Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again, Baby Don't You Do It, Magic Bus, Overture, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me

Comments: Excellent sound makes this show good. But the first-rate playing makes it even better! Won't Get Fooled Again has the band plowing through the song, and Keith turns in some excellent drumming throughout, as always. The group stops in the middle of Baby Don't You Do It as their is a row between some audience members. Magic Bus is an incredible jam consisting of great band interplay and excellent harmonica from Roger. Overture contains some incredible solo figures from Pete and Amazing Journey and Sparks blast power out like only The Who can.

Comments: A great, LOUD, show in front of an excellent audience. The new numbers sound excellent, and Bargain and My Wife contain some of the best live playing I have ever heard by The Who. The Tommy section has every song segueing together, which is unusual and effective, and the ending jams are an intense finale.

Live at Long Beach Arena, Long Beach, California, December 10, 1971

Sound: Excellent audience

Time: Approx. 2 Hours

Set List:

I Can't Explain, Substitute, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again, Baby Don't You Do It, Magic Bus, Overture, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Naked Eye

Comments: Excellent sound and a great complete performance! From the first thunderous chord of I Can't Explain, you can tell this is going to be a special and rocking show. Pete screams at the crowd before My Wife, a rant that can be heard in edited form as the first track from the box set. Bargain is a killer 11 minute jam. Won't Get Fooled Again is amazing and Roger's mic loses power before his scream, quite possibly the only time he never does the scream in that song. The Tommy section rocks and the finale brings down the house. One of my favorite gigs. Recommended.

Comments: What a rare gem of a concert! From the beginning it seems the crowd and band are old friends and The Who rip through the set with a vengeance. The superbly atmospheric recording helps too. This set is LOUD, powerful, gentle...everything at once. Bargain is a particularly great version and Magic Bus is frantic and exhausting. Unfortunately the tape is cut in the middle of the Tommy medley but this show is great and a GEM!!

Live at Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, California, December 13, 1971

Sound: Very Good Soundboard

Set List:

Substitute, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again, Baby Don't You Do It, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Goin' Down, Naked Eye, Magic Bus

Comments: This is one of the best shows from the 1971 tour...the sound is great and so is the playing! Pete plays some great guitar throughout and gets the band into a great jam of Goin' Down in the middle of a very long My Generation. This show will let anyone know why the Who were the best live rock band, and 1971 was an exceptional year for them. If you don't have this one, I strongly suggest that you pick it up, as it is a gem of a show!

Comments: The last show of 1971 and an incredible one....probably the best one from the whole year! It is just brilliant, with stellar versions of Baby Don't You Do It, Bargain, Magic Bus, and an incredible Naked Eye being highlights of an all around exceptional show. Naked Eye has some amazing workouts by Pete, Keith, and John in particular at the end. Recommended!
