Comments: A super rare show and the first of the 1972 European Tour. The show is superb with excellent playing all around. Rare readings of Baby Don't You Do It (rare after 1971) and a great version of Long Live Rock make this show even more enjoyable to have. All in all, one of my favorite 1972 shows.

Live at Ernst-Merck Halle, Hamburg, Germany, August 12, 1972

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Shakin' All Over, My Wife, Summertime Blues, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again, The Relay, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Naked Eye, Long Live Rock, Daddy Rolling Stone, Sparks

Comments: What a great show! Complete except for I Can't Explain missing as the first song. A nice surprise of Shakin' All Over and the whole first part of the set is rearranged for a different feel. Bargain and My Wife rock viciously and Won't Get Fooled Again serves as a thunderous set centerpiece. Keith's drumming and John and Pete's riffing in The Relay are simply wonderful, and from the explosive first chords of My Generation through the rockin' Long Live Rock serve as a wonderful set closer. Surprise encores of Daddy Rolling Stone and Sparks end this excellent show with the band rocking hard only 2 dates into the tour!

I Can't Explain, Shakin' All Over, My Wife, Summertime Blues, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again, Magic Bus, The Relay, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Sparks, Naked Eye

Comments: A really energetic and wild show...the band is really excited and energetic and this definitely comes through in their playing! My Wife and Shakin' All Over are really hard rocking and Keith's drumming on The Relay drives the song along thunderously. Magic Bus is a great jam and the end of the show features some great jamming and the band rocks hard to the end. Another excellent show.

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again, Magic Bus, The Relay, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Naked Eye

Comments: A great show! My Wife really cooks, and is definitely the song where the band warms up on this tour. Bargain is a great rocker and they jam on it for a while, and Magic Bus has some great jamming towards the end of it with improvised riffs being played out and expanded on instantly. This is another excellent show from the 1972 European Tour.

Live at Deutschlandhalle, Berlin, Germany, August 30, 1972

Sound: Good to very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again, Magic Bus, The Relay, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Naked Eye, Long Live Rock

Comments: A great show, the band really rocks and Bargain and My Wife blast open with power and energy. Relay comes off as a really hard rocker and Roger sounds great during it. Long Live Rock is the second new song in the set (Relay being the other) and it comes off as a fun rocker, with Roger belting out all of the words instead of Pete (as on the record). Like the Rome show, this show has the guitar up front in the mix.

Live at Viennerstadhalle, Vienna, Austria, September 2, 1972

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Comments: A really energetic and powerful show....even the mistakes are enjoyable, such as the tape stretching and being out of tune at the beginning of Relay. Pete and John's interplay with Keith on My Wife and Bargain is incredible and the energy Roger pours into the whole set, and especially the finale with the other three guys makes for a great show.

Live at Deutsches Muzeum, Munich, Germany, September 4, 1972

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again, Magic Bus, The Relay, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Naked Eye

Comments: Another wild and immense show! The jamming on My Wife and Bargain are amazing and really a warm up for this great show. Won't Get Fooled Again is quite epic and a strong version of Relay is a treat! This show, as most of the 1972 Tour, is wonderful and very different form any other tour The Who undertook. It is unfortunately overlooked in their history but is a great tour...any show form this one is worth getting!

Live at Mehrzeckhalle, Wetzikon, Zurich, Switzerland, September 5, 1972

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Magic Bus, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Naked Eye, Baby Don't You Do It, Long Live Rock, Goin' Down

Comments: A really fiery show with a slight rearrangement of the first half of the set that helps the pace really charge ahead. Bargain is really long and great and the jamming in the middle contains some quiet sections, which sound great when contrasted with the full-blown rocking charging sections after. The end jamming starting with My Generation is really great and the songs don't contain any pauses in between, just one after another for a really energetic finale.

Live at the Fete d'Humanities, Paris, France, September 9, 1972

Sound: Very good to excellent audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again, Magic Bus, The Relay, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me

Comments: Incredible show! This was in front of 400,000 people staged by the French Communist Party! The sound is wonderful and the band really plays a great show, with a scorching version of Bargain and The Relay, and Won't get Fooled Again is flawless. The rest of the show is equally impressive.... this is one to seek out! Incidentally, Pete invited Eric Clapton to watch from the wings, and he was evicted by a member of the crew who thought he was a fan who blagged his way backstage!

Live at the Palaeur, Rome, Italy, September 14, 1972

Sound: Good to very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again, Magic Bus, The Relay, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, My Generation, Naked Eye

Comments: This is a good, powerful show, the last one from the 1972 Europe tour. The guitar is way louder in the mix than anything else but you can hear everything. My Wife is very powerful and it is interesting as the 1972 tour was the only one where they played Relay live, and it is quite powerful on stage. Bargain is 10 minutes long and contains truly excellent jamming and soloing.
