The Who:Live 1973:
Live at Sporthall De Vliegermolen, Voorburg, Netherlands, March 10, 1973
Sound: Very good soundboard
Time: Approx. 25 Minutes
Set List:
My Generation, See Me Feel Me, Pinball Wizard, Won't Get Fooled Again
Comments: This was a one-off show The Who played for a Dutch TV rock festival. This is their whole set minus 3 songs. Although not nearly as good a show as when they are in the midst of a tour, this show does have some high points like a short but rockin' My Generation and a powerful Won't Get Fooled Again.
Live at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, England, October 29, 1973
Sound: Good audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Generation, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, Helpless Dancer, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, The Rock, Love Reign O'er Me, My Generation, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, Won't get Fooled Again
Comments: This was the second time ever that Quadrophenia was performed live. Some troubles wih the backing tapes and singing in time to them but not many. This show has some rarities, such as the Rock and Helpless Dancer, although the night before was the only time the entire album was performed live. The group is in good spirits, although a little pessimistic about the album. The crowd eagerly awaits it. Helpless Dancer features John on trumpet and The Real Me and the rest of the show tear along with some fierce energy. This is a rare show and very, very good.
Live at Kings Hall, Belle Vue, Manchester, England, November 1, 1973
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Generation, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, Helpless Dancer, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, The Rock, Love Reign O'er Me, My Generation, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Magic Bus, Alright Now
Comments: Really good sound and a very enthusiastic show....there is hardly a pause between numbers as they pound out one song after another. Quadrophenia sounds much better even after just one week of being played on stage and My Generation is booming in both versions! Won't Get Fooled Again and Magic Bus are massive and Alright Now is a surprise encore...a great show with incredible playing throughout! Quite possibly one of the strongest Quadrophenia shows and certainly an incredible all around gig.
Live at Lyceum Ballroom, The Strand, Central London, England, November 12, 1973
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 2 1/2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Generation, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, Helpless Dancer, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, The Rock, Love Reign O'er Me, My Generation, Won't Get Fooled Again, See Me Feel Me, Magic Bus, Spoonful/Smokestack Lightning
Comments: A really high charged and early Quadrophenia show in a venue that was much too small for the band and fans alike. Pete displays his devastating quick tongue when cutting down a heckler not once but twice! Quadrophenia sounds quite grand and epic and the finale is just blasted through with high intensity. Great show.
Live at the Cow Palace, San Francisco, California, November 20, 1973
Sound: Good audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Generation, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, Helpless Dancer, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again (Keith collapses), Magic Bus (Keith collapses again), See Me Feel Me (Roger, John and Pete only), Smokestack Lightning/Spoonful (w/Scott Halpin), Naked Eye (w/Scott Halpin)
Comments: This was the first show on the 1973 US Tour, and a great one. The beginning and middle of this show are wonderful, but during the middle of Won't Get Fooled Again, Keith collapses. He is revived and plays for half of Magic Bus, and collapses again. His drink was spiked with animal tranquilizer before and it almost killed him! The other three perform a drum-less See Me Feel Me and draft Scott Halpin from the audience to play on the final two numbers. He does an ok job. This show was good and unique, and Quadrophenia sounds strong. The audio is a little rough, but historical significance overrules here.
Live at LA Forum, Inglewood, California, November 23, 1973
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, My Generation, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, Helpless Dancer, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, Naked Eye
Comments: An excellent Quadrophenia show...the third one of the US Tour and the second show since Keith's collapse. The Real Me and The Punk Meets the Godfather are incredibly lively and rock hard and the whole show is generally an excellent throughout, although Roger does completely botch the first two verse of Dr. Jimmy. Powerful show.
Live at Memorial Auditorium, Dallas, Texas, November 25, 1973
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 45 Minutes
Set List:
Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me
Comments: This is the last half of the concert and all that is known to exist from this show. Roger cited this as the only weak show of the tour. It sounds very good except Roger blows almost half of Dr. Jimmy by not singing! Love Reign O'er Me is excellent but it takes the group nearly a minute to get the timing together and correct at the beginning of Won't Get Fooled Again. Still, what we have here sounds pretty good....where's the rest?!
Live at Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan, November 30, 1973
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
Summertime Blues, My Wife, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, Helpless Dancer, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, Magic Bus, Naked Eye, Let's See Action
Comments: Excellent show! The band steamrolls right through My Wife and Quadrophenia is massive and wonderful. The finale is killer, with Won't Get Fooled Again, Magic Bus, and Naked Eye in particular sounding great and heavy, really letting the band jam towards the end. This was cited as one of the best shows from the 1973 US Tour and it is easy to see why. This one's great!
Live at the Forum, Montreal, Canada, December 2, 1973
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, My Generation, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, Helpless Dancer, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, Magic Bus
Comments: A great show! The band tear through this set, and My Wife is like a punch in the chest! Quadrophenia sounds great and heavy and My Generation becomes a great jam with excellent soloing by all three players. Won't Get Fooled Again and Magic Bus are, as usual, bombastic conclusions to 2 hours of incredible playing by the Who. This show was the famous one where John, Pete, and Keith destroyed their hotel room and were thrown in jail for the night. One of the best gigs from the 1973 US Tour.
Live at Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, December 3, 1973
Sound: Good to very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, My Generation, I am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Dr. Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me
Comments: A super-charged show the day after The Who got out of prison...they are pissed on stage, taking potshots at the Canadian police! The anger gives the music a great emotional edge, and that comes through in a really strong Quadrophenia, and the opening numbers are powerful and fast! I really like this show.
Live at the Capitol Center, Largo, Maryland, December 6, 1973
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx.: 75 Minutes
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Generation, I Am The Sea, The Real Me, I'm One, Sea And Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me, Feel Me
Comments: This is the last show on the North American tour and The Who put in a great show. The Quadrophenia section sounds excellent, better than earlier in the tour. The whole show is charged with an incredible amount of intensity and energy and My Generation, in particular, really rocks for 7 minutes! The rest is great as well and there is plenty of great music to make this an excellent and worthwhile show.
Live at Sundown Theatre, Edmonton, North London, England, December 18, 1973

Comments: This is the first show out of a 4 night stand at this venue, and what a show! Very energetic right from the start, the playing is simply beautiful yet brutal. The introductory 4 songs are perfect for jarring your bones before Quadrophenia's assault, and a great performance of it it is. The wonderful sound and great show make this an excellent one to have!
Live at Sundown Theatre, Edmonton, North London, England, December 22, 1973
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 2 1/2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, My Generation, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, Substitute, Magic Bus, Naked Eye, Spoonful
Comments: The third night at this venue produces another incredible show. The opening numbers SCREAM and Quadrophenia has never sounded stronger! The sequence of encores is wonderful, especially with a great version of Substitute being played before Magic Bus, Naked Eye, and an incredibly heavy Spoonful all segue into each other to bring the show to a great close!
Live at Sundown Theatre, Edmonton, North London, England, December 23, 1973
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Summertime Blues, My Wife, I Am the Sea, The Real Me, The Punk Meets the Godfather, I'm One, 5:15, Sea and Sand, Drowned, Bell Boy, Dr. Jimmy, Love Reign O'er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, Substitute, Naked Eye, Let's See Action, Magic Bus
Comments: The last show of 1973, the Who perform a blinder, charged with energy from start to finish. They seem relaxed and in good spirits and offer a killer show, with Quadrophenia really shining. The Punk Meets the Godfather and Drowned are incredible and The Real Me and 5:15 explode! Naked Eye and Magic Bus are long jams and the Who seem to control the show, carrying the crowd in the palms of their hands from the first tune. A classic show.
