The Who:Live 1975

Live at New Bingley Hall, County Showground, Stafford, England, October 3, 1975

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Substitute, I Can't Explain, Squeeze Box, Heaven and Hell, Tattoo, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Eyesight to the Blind, Fiddle About, Acid Queen, Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday Camp, We're Not Gonna Take It, Drowned, Bell Boy, The Punk Meets the Godfather, My Generation, Join Together

Comments: A show of many firsts: the first time live for Squeeze Box and Join Together, the first show of the 1975 UK Tour and the first Who show from 1975 period. And even though it is a little rusty, being the first show, it is still very good, with some definite high points. Of special note too is that during The Punk Meets the Godfather, Pete loses time with Keith and stops the song to yell at Keith and then continues as if nothing happened...typical Who moment! A very good show nonetheless.

Live at New Bingley Hall, County Showground, Stafford, England, October 4, 1975

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Set List:

Substitute, I Can't Explain, Squeeze Box, Heaven and Hell, Tattoo, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Eyesight to the Blind, Acid Queen, Fiddle About, Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday Camp, We're Not Gonna Take It, Summertime Blues, Drowned, 5:15, My Generation, Join Together, Magic Bus

Comments: The next night provides a much better and more relaxed performance, and this one really rocks! Drowned is a great jam, with the band going all out to rock as hard as they can! The Tommy section sounds very good, and if The Who can sound this good after just two shows, then it is no surprise that they were hitting their stride within another week!

Live at Belle Vue, Manchester, England, October 6, 1975

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 2 Hours

Set List:

Substitute, I Can't Explain, Squeeze Box, Heaven and Hell, Tattoo, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Eyesight to the Blind, Acid Queen, Fiddle About, Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday Camp, We're Not Gonna Take It, Summertime Blues, Drowned, 5:15, My Generation, Drum Solo, Naked Eye, Won't Get Fooled Again

Comments: A really good show with some excellent moments, including a great version of Drowned and the second time ever Keith played a drum solo. Sparks is really the song where the jamming is extended and shines through. A number of minor mistakes are evident but with the energy and variety in the set, this show is a prelude for the stunning performance the following night at the same venue, and is in itself an excellent concert.

Live at Belle Vue, Manchester, England, October 7, 1975

Sound: Very good audience

Time: Approx. 2 Hours

Set List:

Substitute, I Can't Explain, Squeeze Box, Heaven and Hell, Tattoo, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Eyesight to the Blind, Acid Queen, Fiddle About, Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday Camp, We're Not Gonna Take It, Summertime Blues, Drowned, 5:15, My Generation, Join Together, Let's See Action, Magic Bus, Won't Get Fooled Again

Comments: A thunderous show, and probably the best of the British tour dates. The playing is exceptionally energetic and aggressive, while the delicacy in the softer numbers is carried off with a great touch of deftness. Nice to see some Quadrophenia songs thrown into the set and great versions they are! The My Generation jam is excellent, with many contrasting sections of loud and soft and great jamming throughout, leading into the epic Won't Get Fooled Again. A wonderful show; recommended!

Live at Apollo Center, Glasgow, Scotland, October 15, 1975

Sound: Good audience

Time: Approx. 2 Hours

Set List:

Substitute, I Can't Explain, Squeeze Box, Heaven and Hell, Tattoo, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, However Much I Booze, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Eyesight to the Blind, Acid Queen, Fiddle About, Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday Camp, We're Not Gonna Take It, Summertime Blues, Bargain, 5:15, My Generation, Join Together, Naked Eye, Magic Bus, Won't Get Fooled Again

Comments: A great, long show by The Who. Some nice surprises, including the first ever live performance of However Much I Booze, the first performance or Bargain since 1972, and 5:15 and the ending jams which include Naked Eye and Magic Bus. The recording is good, but the incredibly obnoxious audience insists on clapping in and out of time to the band the entire show, causing somewhat of an annoying and not as rewarding as it could be listening experience.

Comments: An excellent show, and the first one from 3 nights at Wembley Arena. Baba O'Riley is thunderous at the end and the My Generation jam is great, with a surprise inclusion of Chuck Berry's Maybelline! Bargain is played live for the first time since 1972 and However Much I Booze is played live, as it was for the first month of the 1975 British Tour. It sounds great and is a shame it wasn't played as much on stage. A classic gig and recommended.

Comments: Another classic show, However Much I Booze rocks, and My Generation is a heavy rocker with some great band jamming at the end. The beginning of the show blasts out with urgency, and a surprise Johnny B. Goode is thrown in at the end! A gig of the same high standard the Who always deliver, this one is timeless. Recommended.

Comments: The first show of the 1975 European Tour and another excellent show, with the part of the set leading up the Tommy medley really standing out. The ending jams are very dynamic too and excellent sound makes this one of the few shows where However Much I Booze can truly be appreciated as a great live song. A very energetic Amazing Journey and Sparks are highlights of the Tommy section.

Comments: Absolutely incredible sound on this show! The show itself is excellent with John's amusing announcements proceeding an awesome version of Drowned. However Much I Booze is an excellent version with some great improvisations at the end and is longer than usual....they needed to keep this song in the set longer!! The rest of the show is a typical great 1975 Who show!

Comments: An excellent sounding recording of a blistering show! The band is in good sprirts and gives a great show, with the playing in Drowned and However Much I Booze standing out in the middle of the set. However Much I Booze was played for the last time at this show, and receives one of its most rocking and exciting readings ever! The My Generation jam is one of the best I have ever heard, with Pete's guitar solos just screaming non-stop throughout as it leads into Won't Get Fooled Again.... it's great!

Comments: Excellent sound and a super-charged show! A great gig with tons of energy and fun. The beginning blasts out of the speakers and they really get warmed up for this show. I really like this gig a lot. Moon and John thunder throughout and Pete and Roger are so full of energy as are the other two that this becomes a great gig. Great audience sound and incredible jamming, especially on My Wife and My Generation make this another excellent show from 1975. Comments: This show held the record for the most attendance at one show with 75,000 people, a record that was broken only by Led Zeppelin in 1977 by 500 more people. The show itself is exceptional and captured in an excellent recording. Pete's soloing on Sparks and especially My Generation is mind blowing and the band crackles from start to finish.

Comments: Another excellent show. As the end of the tour nears, the shows keep getting better and better! Keith in particular drums like a maniac and the humor and spirits are high with the band joking constantly. The jamming on Magic Bus and My Wife are incredible, and Sparks seems to crush the audience. The drumming in My Generation is savage and overpowers John and Pete's thundering interplay. Keith seems to begin his drum solo in Won't Get Fooled Again too early...it's that good!
