Comments: This is the second show of 1976 and the second time ever Slip Kid was played live. A very good show before a very enthusiastic and sometimes obnoxious crowd. The Tommy section is really good and the ending jam into Won't Get Fooled Again is really great. Sound varies from good to very good but it is certainly very listenable and quite enjoyable.

Comments: A great show on Roger's birthday. The first half, the non-Tommy portion is simply some of the best live rock ever, and Slip Kid has some thunderous drumming and a great solo from Pete. The Tommy section is great and the ending jamming and the towering Won't Get Fooled Again end this marvelous concert. An excellent preview show for the US Tour.
Live at Pavilion de Paris, Paris, France, March 2, 1976

Comments: Captured on a really great audience recording, this warm-up show for the US Tour has some neat set variations, including possibly the second time ever Slip Kid was done on stage and a Roadrunner jam at the end of My Generation. The vibrant, atmospheric sound captures the event perfectly, and the sound is really crisp. The show itself is thunderous, loud, and thrashing....all the makings of a great Who show! The playing is great and the band even yell at the crowd to cool it after they start a crush at the front. All in all a classic show.
Live at Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, March 9, 1976
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 10 Minutes

Comments: Keith collapses due to sever flu symptoms after 2 songs! Roger tries to calm the crowd but they won't have any of it. A riot ensued and the following night's show in New York City was pushed back another night. The Who would return to make it up on April 1 and deliver a STUNNING show to repay Boston. This is the first show of the 1976 US Tour.

Comments: A great show two days after Moonie's collapse at Boston Garden! The show drives along. My Wife is really powerful and Slip Kid sounds great on stage, even though it was abandoned a week later. A shame, it sounds strong and funky with the percussion. The Tommy section rocks and there is some truly great jamming during My Generation. A timeless show with a unique twist, and great sound to boot! Check out those encores!

Comments: This show marked the last ever performance of Slip Kid, which is a shame, as once again, it sounds great. Dreaming From the Waist is a powerhouse and the jamming in My Generation is excellent...it is amazing how they can make it fresh and different every night. Keith's drum fills in Won't Get Fooled Again are awesome.

Comments: A great show with great sound, this is the gig where Pete went deaf right form the start and has had tinitus ever since...but the loudest ever concert was still to come! Excellent playing throughout, with thunderous bass and drums and a generally all around solid, great and rockin' Who show!

Comments: The entire band was suffering from the flu, but the playing and singing would never indicate so! Between songs, they are quite mean in their jibes toward each other but the sheer magic of the show makes up for any bad vibes. Keith in particular plays like a man possessed, and Pete's guitar solos on Magic Bus and Sparks are mind-blowing. Excellent sound quality makes this show one of the best of the tour.

Comments: This show in front of a packed house in this smaller venue is crackling good! Energy and fantastic playing coupled with the excellent, vibrant sound make this show a treat to listen to. Just listen to Keith's drumming in a particularly thunderous My Wife!

Comments: A super-charged show! This is the second of two nights at Winterland, and The Who rise to the occasion, playing searing rock and roll and singing and playing their hearts out. The ending jams in particular are stunning. The front cover of the box set was shot at these gigs, as an interesting sidenote.

Comments: This is a make-up show from March when Keith collapsed after 3 songs. The Who came back and played an incredible show, full of energy and high spirits. The versions of Magic Bus, My Generation, and Won't Get Fooled Again must rate as some of the best ever played. The sound quality is excellent, and the show makes up for the previous disaster tenfold.

Sound: Good to very good audience
Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

Comments: The first of two warm up dates for the Who Put the Boot In tour and a very rare show that I was very lucky to find! An excellent, supercharged show, especially evident in the first batch of numbers. The Quadrophenia surprises thrown in the My Generation jam are excellent and would be repeated successfully again in the second warm up show. All that's missing is the final song, Won't Get Fooled Again...I am not sure of the availability of that as I can't believe I acquired this show!

Comments: Great show, the second of two warm up dates for the "Who Put the Boot In" mini tour. A great set and really great sound, and a rare performance of Is It Me and Punk Meets the Godfather after My Generation, which are greeted by rapturous applause from the crowd. The band is playing wonderfully and this is definitely one to seek out.

Comments: The first of the three Who Put The Boot In shows, this is a magical show, stunning on every level. The band plays better than ever, the harmonies are splendid, the humor on stage is wonderful and the rapport with the crowd is great! This is a really clear, atmospheric recording that helps transfer the magic right to your ears....feels like you are there. A timeless show from start to finish. This was also the show that is officially, in the Guiness Book or World Records, the loudest rock concert ever. I did the calculation in physics class and it turns out they were 617 louder than a jackhammer next to your ear. Get this show! Recommended.

Comments: The sound on this show is incredible, equal to any official release. The show itself contains spotless playing, and John's bass playing, on Dreaming From the Waist in particular, is amazing. The drumming is incredible, searing guitar from Pete and a killer show all around.

Comments: The first show of The 1976 US Whirlwind Tour, a 6-date mini-tour of the East Coast. This show is amazing, with some truly great jamming throughout, especially the interplay at the end of the My Generation jam. The entire show is really energetic and manic and it sounds fresh and exciting! This one and the next night were wonderful, and this mini-tour produced some amazing shows. This is one of them.

Comments: The second night at this venue, and another super-charged and powerful show. The jamming is unique and wonderful, especially on an extended Sparks and a great version of Magic Bus that also features some killer harmonica playing from Roger. Not too many words to describe this show, it is as gutsy and charged as the first! Get them both!

Comments: Excellent sound on this show! The playing is amazing, better than the usual standard on the 1976 Tour. John in particular plays bass lines that are even more impressive than usual! Magic Bus is one of the best 1976 versions ever and the My Generation jam is amazing...the only disappointing thing is the missing Won't Get Fooled Again, which I am sure was epic and wonderful and would have sounded great in this recording...where is it!?

Comments: An excellent show leading up to the great pair of shows in Oakland. The playing is crisp and powerful and Keith drums like a man possessed on My Wife and especially Sparks and the My Generation jam. The sound is very vibrant and crisp too and the playing is so good. An excellent display of live rock.

Comments: An excellent show on John's birthday! This is the first of two shows The Who played on this weekend for Bill Graham's Day On The Green. This was a nice long set that blasts off from the start! My Wife is a steamroller and John, Keith and Pete play so well on it, it is unbelievable. The whole show is killer, and the 2-hour set from the next night would end one of the best weekends of concerts ever!
Live at Alameda County Stadium, Oakland, California, October 10, 1976
Sound: Excellent audience

Goode
Comments: An incredible show! The sound is crisp and lively and the playing is out of this world. Only The Who could make the material sound fresh and exciting night after night, and this show is even better than the night before! Keith and John and Pete steamroll through the set with little improvisations and riffs thrown in everywhere, and the singing from all three of them, and Roger in particular, is astounding. The encores at the end are great fun too. Recommended!

Sound: Very good audience

Comments: Keith's last show ever in America. This show has some particularly great jamming, especially in My Wife and Magic Bus...overall the band seems inspired and relaxed and their playing sounds better than other nights...showing that The Who can sound fresh and exciting night after night with even their oldest material. The My Generation medley is very long and unique in its improvisations and even includes bits of Relax, which hadn't been played live since 1968! A great show and what a way to go out for Keith in America.

Comments: An excellent show, which would be surpassed only by the final concert in Toronto. Keith, as usual on this tour, drums like a madman, stealing My Wife and Magic Bus away from the already incredible contributions of the other three! My Generation contains some excellent timpani work behind Pete's inventive soloing and John's booming bass. Great show!
Live at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Canada, October 21, 1976
Sound: Excellent audience
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Set List:
I Can't Explain, Substitute, My Wife, Baba O'Riley, Squeeze Box, Behind Blue Eyes, Dreaming From the Waist, Magic Bus, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Acid Queen, Fiddle About, Pinball Wizard, I'm Free, Tommy's Holiday camp, We're Not Gonna Take It, Summertime Blues, My Generation, Who Are You, Won't get Fooled Again
Comments: This was the Who's last live appearance in North America with Keith Moon, and an incredible farewell it was! The sound is great and the show is wonderful. Lots of long jams here, including an 18 minute My Generation that contains an early working of Who Are You! The playing is beyond top-notch and Pete and Keith wreck their instruments at the end for old time's sake. Timeless show, and a must have.
