Led Zeppelin:Demos and Such
Studio Daze
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 70 Minutes
Track listing:
That's the Way, Blues Medley, Since I've Been Loving You, All My Love, What is and What Should Never Be, Dancing Days, No Quarter (takes 1-3), White Summer
Comments: This is a great collection of rarities. All My Love is the complete version, WIAWSNB and Dancing Days are great live versions from 6/27/72 Long Beach and White Summer is Jimmy on acoustic, alone from a 1970 TV show. Great stuff here, well worth having.
Bron-Y-Aur Cottage, Wales, May 1970
Sound: Very good soundboard/home recording
Time: Approx. 30 Minutes
Tracks:
Guitar Instrumentals, Poor Tom, Bron-Y-Aur, That's the Way, Friends, Guitar Instrumentals
Comments: A wonderful piece of history here; these are the sketches for Led Zeppelin III and besides that, are some great examples of Jimmy's acoustic guitar style. The instrumentals are haunting and contain snippets of other songs, including Tangerine and That's the Way, and Poor Tom has nearly the same arrangement it had when it was recorded and eventually released on Coda, except Robert hums the melody. More of this please!
Headley Grange, Hampshire, England, December 1970/January 1971
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 45 Minutes
Tracks:
Stairway to Heaven (take 1), Blues Guitar Jam (takes 1-2), Black Dog (takes 1-3), No Quarter, Stairway to Heaven (takes 2-4), Stairway to Heaven (takes 5-6)
Comments: The outtakes form the fourth album, these are essential. Especially in hearing the development of Stairway from its shy acoustic beginnings to its masterpiece conclusion. Back Dog includes some great drumming as he tries to get it right and No Quarter is very jazzy and faster than the final version a year later.
Headley Grange, Hampshire, England, May 1974
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 2 Hours
Track listing:
Custard Pie, The Rover (acoustic), The Rover (electric), In My Time of Dying, Trampled Underfoot, Kashmir, In the Light, Bron-Y-Aur, Down By the Seaside, Ten Years Gone, Night Flight, The Wanton Song, Swansong, Sick Again, The Wanton Song (Take 1-2), Take Me Home (Takes 1-2), In the Morning (Take 1), Trampled Underfoot (Takes 1-6), In the Morning (Take 2), Sick Again, Untitled Jam (Including Royal Orleans, Hots On for Nowhere, Candy Store Rock), In My Time of Dying (Takes 1-5)
Comments: The outtakes for Physical Graffiti, this tape is invaluable. In the Light is an amazing, different version and Swansong is a masterpiece. This tape is a crucial document for seeing the development of songs and the album and the songwriting talents of Led Zeppelin. The untitled jam contains great rhythm exercises and bits of songs that would later be finished for Presence. Take Me Home is a great, unfinished song that never saw the light of day...essential stuff!
Clearwater Castle Rehearsals, Wales, England, May 1978
Sound: Very good audience
Time: Approx. 15 Minutes
Track listing:
Fire, Carouselambra (Takes 1-3)
Comments: A really great snippet of studio time during the sessions for In Through the Out Door. Fire is a GREAT unreleased song that should have seen its place on the album! The takes of Carouselambra are really heavy and sound great as the band develops it throughout these three takes.
Polar Studios, Stockholm, Sweden, December 1978
Sound: Excellent soundboard
Time: Approx. 50 Minutes
Tracks:
Carouselambra, Wearing and Tearing, Fool In the Rain, In the Evening, South Bound Saurez, Darlene, Fool In the Rain
Comments: These are takes and alternate versions of the songs on In Through the Out Door. These are very excellent versions and the band seems to really be enjoying themselves. The takes of Fool In the Rain are really good and Darlene has a great jam at the end. Really rare and a great glimpse into the last Led Zeppelin album's making.

Comments: These, couple with what I have from other sources (see above) are ALL the known Led Zeppelin studio outtakes. There are too many great moments to mention but this is an excellent and awesome glimpse into the making of some of the best music ever by one of the greatest bands of all time!
