"There are locks on the doors and chains stretch across all the entries to the inside.
There's a gate and a fence and bars to protect from only god knows what lurks outside.
Who stole your heart and left you with a space no one and nothing can fill,
and who took it away knowing that without it you can't live?
Who stole your heart, the smile from your face, the innocent light from your eyes?"

--Tracy Chapman, "Remember the Tinman"
New Beginnings

--Joni Seager

A woman living in the United States of America has between a 1-in-5 and 1-in-7 chance of being the victim of rape in her lifetime.

There are an average of 92,000 rapes reported to the police in the U.S. in a year. However, the estimate of the number of rapes that actually occur is 310,000.

Rape in time of war was not made into a crime officially until 1996.

There are only 9 rape crisis centers in all of Mexico. And only 1 in each of the following countries: Japan, South Korea, Argentina and Bangladesh.

Women make up over 36% of the world's work force.
Women own only 1% of the world's land.
