"Sing me a Wiccan song
Of winter, summer, fall, spring,
Of seasons passing joyfully,
Their praises we do sing.
For only in a Wiccan song
Can we with Nature ring.
--Ray Buckland, "Sing Me a Wiccan Song"
Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft

In the Pagan religion, eight Sabbats, or holy days,
are celebrated to mark the turning of the seasons. We refer to this circular cycle as the Wheel of the Year.
The Wheel begins traditionally with our New Year Sabbat, Samhain (pronounced sow-win), which is also called Hallow's Eve or November Eve.
It runs its course through to the Sabbat of the Fall Equinox, Mabon. Then, like the circle of life itself, it begins once again with Samhain.
Some Pagans feel that the Mother Goddess rules the seasons of Spring and Summer, while her counterpart, the God, rules the seasons of Autumn and Winter.
Others believe that the Divine Son is born of the Mother Goddess at Yule, joins in the
Great Rite with her at Beltane, and then sacrifices himself in the turning of the wheel of life upon Lammas, or August Eve.
It seems most fitting that we should launch this project in time for our highest of holy days, Samhain. It marks a new year, and a
refreshing new direction for ourselves...and the House of Cats.
Please join with us over the months to come in learning about the Pagan Sabbats, their history, traditions and celebrations.
