Book Review 3
Practical Vedic Astrology by G.S. Agarwal
This is one of my favourite books and gets an excellent rating as one of the best recent books to come out of India. Just for the volume of information provided it is well worth having. The author seems to take a practical and realistic approach to his craft and is not backwards in giving his opinion on every aspect of Hindu astrology.
There is something in this book for both the beginner and experienced astrologer starting from the principals of the planets, signs and houses to the more complicated techniques of muhurta and matchmaking.
The author has not been shy in writing about matters of sex, marriage and even the physical features which make this work even more interesting for the student of astrology.
What impresses me about this book is the simple and uncomplicated way in which it is presented. There are no long winded dialogues, just many combinations that can be put to the test by the reader and studied to find the principals used by the author.
Overall this book is very good value for the price considering how much material is in this book. The last section of the book is chock full of useful charts the beginner student can make great use of. I was also impressed that this book has been recently updated and expanded with even more material. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to the student of traditional Vedic astrology.
