The History of the 89th Regiment of Foot Grenadiers

this is a breif outline of the 89th

 

The 89th was raised in Southern Ireland in 1804 and then garrisoned in

Britian.

 

In 1809 Colonel Joseph Wanton Morrison (1783-1826) takes

command of the 89th Reg.  

 

May, 1810.  2/89th  Garrison of Gibralter.  300 killed in raid against

French.  At Fuengirola on the South coast of Spain.  

 

Morrison Returns from another Regiment that was is Jamaica in the

spring of 1812.  Rebuilds the 2/89th  and brings it to North America

in October 1812.

650 rank and file at the battle of Cryslers farm Novemeber 11th 1813

 

July 7th 1814,  ordered to York.  Depart York after a short while and

arrive at Fort George on July 25th,  and depart the same day.

On route to Lundy's lane with 800 men.  Including 300 of the Kings 8th,

a detachment of the Royals, and the lights of the 41st.  On the evening of

the 25th and the morning of the 26th they fight the battle of Lundy's lane.

 

Aug. 15th attack on Fort Erie.   

 

Jan.  1815,  Sail to France to fight Napolean.  However did not reach

destination until after the battle of Waterloo.
