This is Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, my Guru. He came to the United States in 1920, and he brought us his energization exercises (hatha and prana yoga), hong sau and Aum (OM) techniques of meditation, and Kriya yoga. He emphasized the underlying unity of original Christianity as taught by Jesus Christ, and original Yoga as taught by Bhagavan Krishna, and he stressed devotion. His teachings are available from the organization he founded, Self Realization Fellowship. He is the author of several books, the most famous is The Autobiography of a Yogi.
Come Spirit come. Receive the fervor of our souls. We worship Thee with the burning, ringing desire of our hearts. We are Thy children. We are knocking at Thy door. Receive us. Spirit Divine, forgive our trespasses; teach us to love our brothers as Thy children. May Thou, the only Spirit, be reflected in the mirror of our souls. Teach us to want Thee, only. It is Thy love that it is my priviledge to spread, with the pollen of reverence. May each one receive Thy light. Receive our souls at Thy feet of Omnipresence. Prayer of Sri Paramahansa Yogananda from The Flawless Mirror.
Heavenly Spirit, we are traveling by many right roads to Thine abode of light. Guide us unto the highway of Self knowledge, to which all paths of true religious beliefs eventually lead. The diverse religions are branches of Thy one immeasurable tree of truth. May we enjoy the luscious fruits of soul realization that hang from the boughs of scriptures of every clime and time. Prayer of Sri Paramahansa Yogananda from Whispers From Eternity.
In the beginning was the Word (the creative vibration- the Holy Ghost, Amen, or Aum), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Attunement with God as Aum lifts the consciousness to the imminent Christ Consciousness. Through Christ Consciousness the advanced Yogi (master of Yoga) ascends to Cosmic Consciousness in the highest cerebral center. No man cometh unto the Father (Cosmic Consciousness), but by me (through the Son, or Christ Consciousness). These states of the Holy Trinity are symbolized in Hindu scriptures as Aum, Tat, Sat- Holy Ghost vibration, Kutastha or Christ Consciousness, and God or Cosmic Consciousness. From The Royal Science of God Realization by Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.

Unto you, (my disciples) it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see,and hearing they might not understand. For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them. The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light. From Jesus Christ- St. Luke 8:10, 10:24, 11:34.
Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto Thee I will pray, My voice shalt Thou hear in the morning, O Lord.; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto Thee, and will look up. From Psalms 5:1,2,3.
Do not forsake your laws, and keep secret your mysteries. Flames of your lamp, miraculous brilliances, honor and virtue and highness of glory, holy secret, and place of splendor, mighty wonders, healings and miraculous works, fountain of understanding, holiness and secret truth, treasurehouse of understanding from the sons of righteousness. From The Dead Sea Scrolls.

I show thee all my semblances- infinite, rich, divine- my changeful hues, my countless forms. See! In this face of mine. Then O king, the God so saying, stood to Pritha's son displaying, all the splendor, wonder, dread of his vast almighty head. Out of countless eyes beholding, out of countless mouths commanding, countless mystic forms enfolding. In one form supremely standing, countless radiant glories wearing, countless heavenly weapons bearing, crowned with garlands of star clusters, robed in garb of woven lusters. Breathing from his perfect presence, breaths of every subtle essence, of all heavenly odors. Shedding blinding brilliance, overspreading, boundless beautiful, all spaces- with his all regarding faces. So He showed, if there should rise suddenly within the skies, sunburst of a thousand suns, flooding Earth with beams undeemed of, then might that Holy one's majesty and radiance be dreamed of. Discription of Bhagavan Krishna from The Song Celestial (Bhagavad Gita).

This is Mahavatar Babaji, who resides in the Himalayas. In bestowing Kriya initiation on his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya, Babaji said, "the Kriya Yoga that I am giving to the world through you is a revival of the same science that Krishna gave millenniums ago to Arjuna; and that was later known to Patanjali and Christ." Babaji appeared to Sri Paramahansa Yogananda and told him," you are the one I have chosen to spread the message of Kriya Yoga in the West. Long ago I met your guru Sri Yukteswar at a Kumbha Mela; I told him then I would send you to him for training. Kriya Yoga, the scientific technique of God-realization, will ultimately spread in all lands, and aid in harmonizing the nations through man's personal, transcendental perception of the infinite Father." Quotes from The Autobiography of a Yogi.

This is Lahiri Mahasaya, Guru of Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri. A significant feature of Lahiri Mahasaya's life was his gift of Kriya initiation to those of every faith. Not Hindus only, but Moslems and Christians were among his foremost disciples. The master encouraged his various disciples to adhere to the good traditional discipline of their own faiths. Stressing the all-inclusive nature of Kriya Yoga as a practical technique of liberation, Lahiri Mahasaya then gave his chelas liberty to express their lives in conformance with environment and upbringing. Quotes from The Autobiography of a Yogi.

This is Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, Guru of Sri Paramahansa Yogananda. Sri Yukteswar assured Paramahansa Yogananda,"all those who come to you with faith, seeking God, will be helped. As you look at them, the spiritual current emanating from your eyes will enter their brains and change their material habits, making them more God-conscious." Quote form The Autobiography of a Yogi.

This is Divine Mother Durga. She is that aspect of God which is active in creation: the shakti, or power of the transcendent Lord. She is the personification of OM.

This is Buddha. The aims of Zazen (meditation) are three, the first is development of concentration, through which the mind become calm and still, and through which one is no longer a slave to his passions or at the mercy of his environment. The second is Satori awakening, also called enlightenment, the opening of the mind's eye. The third is the actualization of the Way throughout our entire being and our daily activities. From The Three Pillars of Zen
Roy Eugene Davis, a direct disciple of Sri Yogananda, is the spiritual head of the center for spiritual awareness in Georgia. http://www.csa-davis.org

In 1977, on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the mahasamadhi of Paramahansa Yogananda, the government of India issued a commemorative stamp in his honor. With the stamp, the government published a descriptive leaflet, which read, in part: "The ideal of love for God and service to humanity found full expression in the life of Paramahansa Yogananda... Though the major part of his life was spent outside of India, still he takes his place among our great saints. His work continues to grow and shine ever more brightly, drawing people everywhere on the path of the pilgrimage of the Spirit."

Here is a chant I wrote.
We are the generation that can save the world. True knowledge is waiting at our fingertips. We can turn the world from death to brotherhood. O Divine Mother, Jesus, Krishna, Buddha O God. Show me how to behold Thee in all I see. May I behold Thee silently speaking within. May I help to bring the world closer, to brotherhood, and universal love. All hail to God, the highest, Jehovah-Krishna. The unknowable, transform us, OM-Amen-OM.
Here is my testimony.
A couple of days before my father died in 1975, he introduced me to The Autobiography of a Yogi with the words, "This is the highest Yoga and the highest religion." How I love my father! Even though I read the book and believed every word in it, even though I sent for the SRF lessons, I was in the middle of a 23 year love affair with drugs. I tried to be a vegetarian, I tried to live on Steven Gaskin's farm in Tenn., with my first wife, but all I really cared about was drugs. Then around Feb. 1994 I read again the chapter (from The Autobiography of a Yogi) entitled "I meet my master, Sri Yukteswar." As I thought about the lives of these great souls, I began to reflect on the worthlessness of my own life. I began to cry, and I prayed to God that I should become a worthy instrument of His church. A couple of months later I cleaned up my appearance and that August I quit drugs. It was not easy at first, but by meditating and reading the inspired words of my Guru it got easier. I again took up the study of the lessons. (Available from SRF). I have great success with the OM technique of meditation. I know that my first duty on this Earth is to become Self-realized. Now my aim is to be one of masters "boys". I want to serve God and Guru, perhaps to make up for some wasted time. I believe that God takes a part of himself and puts it down here, and that is you. He takes a part of himself and puts it down here, and that is me. Meditation is the process of discovering our true identity, our innate divinity.
