Mr. W. Charles Shaffer,
625 Spring Street,
Latrobe, Pa.
The records of this office show that one Zebulon Park (surname also borne as Parks and Parkes) served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Capt. Thomas Paterson's Company, Col. Elias Dayton's Battalion of forces raised in the State of New Jersey. He enlisted October 26, 1776; was promoted to corporal November 1, 1776; reenlisted February 4, 1777, for the war, in Capt. Thomas Paterson's Company, also designated Lieut. John Kinney's company and Lieut. Col. Francis Barber's Company, 3 New Jersey Regiment, commanded by Col. Elias Dayton; was promoted to sergeant July 1, 1779, and his name last appears on the company pay roll for January and february, 1780. The records of this office afford no information relative to the date or place of his birth or his family.
The collection of Revolutionary War record in this office is far from complete, and it is suggested as a possibility that additional information may be obtained from the Adjutant General of New Jersey, Trenton, or from the Commissioner of Pensions, Washington, D.C.
It is understood that the maiden name of Martha Washington was Dandridge.*
