About Me
The year 1945 marked a moment to remember for my parents as I was introduced to life in Eastern Canada. When I was born, I was so ugly that the doctor slapped my Mother! However, within minutes, I assured my parents that I would improve with age (my first broken promise).
I remember purchasing my first camera when I was about ten years old while on a trip with my parents in New Hampshire, USA. My Dad wasn't too impressed, however, I wanted to have my own camera, even if it was a very cheap mini-model. Film for that model camera was not easy to find in the stores, and a year or so later I bought myself a 'Brownie Hawkeye'. NOW I WAS A SOMEBODY! I began taking black & white photographs, and immediately strived to improve on my images as time went by. At the age of fifteen, I recall my Dad purchasing a new Minolta SLR camera prior to our departing on a vacation by car to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland (my Dad's birthplace). Dad was not a quick learner of sophisticated equipment, so I studied the user's manual for the camera, and soon was nominated as the family photographer. Dad only wanted to take 'transparencies' (slides), and so whenever friends or relatives would frequent our home, I was eager and proud to set up the projector and screen and show my 'Slides of Pride'.
In 1975 I moved to Burnaby, BC and have been living in the area ever since, and hope to reside here for many years to come. Burnaby Lake is just a few minutes walk from my home, and I often pack my camera bag and tripod and walk the trails around the lake, seeking out Great Blue Herons, Canada Geese, Mallards, many species of birds, eagles, otters, coyotes, turtles, beavers, as well as a large variety of swamp plants and wild flowers. I am a proud member of the Burnaby Photographic Society, as well as a member of the Canadian Association For Photographic Art (CAPA).
My main interests in photography are wildlife and nature, but I enjoy all aspects of photography, including buildings and architecture, people & portraiture, personal photography, and landscapes.
With each new day, I strive to find new things and places to photograph. Am I obssesed or what? I don't think so, it's just that pressing my shutter button really turns me on.
