Dollhouse from a Box
ages 6 - 96
Time needed: at least an hour - up to a week!Ingredients:
one large coarboard box - my favorite size is the legal file size
a razor knife or mat knife.
a glue gun
cardboard scraps
paper, wallpaper samples, rug remnants, markers, paints, etc.
Directions:
1. The easiest shape for a first house is to cut a slit in the center of the short side of
the box and cut along the fold - join the two panels created to be the peak of the roof.
Set your box on its end with the open side toward you. Get some scrap cardboard and cut
out a piece the exact size of the bottom.
2. Glue gun this piece in the center of the box - this is the second floor.
3. Glue gun the peak together.
4. Decorate paper with brick or stone designs. (Take to a copy place if you wish to
reproduce it.) Spray mount covering onto outside of box.
5. Make patterned wallpapers and spraymount glue on the inside of the box.
6. Add carpet samples, room dividers, doors and windows.
Get Creative: a copy machine can give you amazing paper to work with: architectural
moldings from an old decorator book, wallpaper patterns (from a book or your own design),
door and window trim, even cabinets and built-in furniture can be copied (and enlarged if
needed) and spray mounted to the walls to create an illusion of depth.
