![]() | What the CD-booklet says: Australian rock has given us few finer experiences than Skyhooks, an "underground-cult-politico rabble" which stirred up the country with an audacious glam rock parody. They provide a long overdue commentary on contemporary Australian suburban life. In 1974 their debut album became the biggest domestic-selling Australian album in history. "Horror Movie", a cynical observation of television news, became the band's first number one single over Christmas 1974. Skyhooks survived until 1980 but have re-formed for national tours since. What I think of this song: Well, what to say about this one? The music is not bad, but the lyrics are. So predictable and moralistic. And wow, that came as a surprise: the horror movie the singer is watching turns out to be the news! (Yawn) I am sure it is all very politically correct, but it is also very early 70s, which is boring. By the way, the singer sounds like he is contemplating a sex-change operation. The music is OK, but don't come to me with "underground-cult-politico rabble". You would almost start thinking we're talking about the mighty MC 5, but there is no real revolution in this bunch. Someone should have kicked out their jams when they were still around. |
