Welcome to the Letters Page,
everybody! Be sure to check out the new link for "Heroic Comics" in the column to the
left for some more great reprints on-line. Here are a couple of the letters I received
during the past month:
Bill, No. 34 was
another great issue. I didn't know 711 had morphed into another character
so that was especially interesting. I've also finished your sixth CD. As
someone who grew up in the 50's reading mostly DC I have come to really
appreciated the number and variety of characters that flourished in the
40's. Many of the Nedor characters in CD #6 have helped in this
appreciation. Like you, I really appreciate the characters and stories
and there is some really first rate material here. The volume of material
you and Steve Rogers on his site present would cost hundreds of dollars to
each of us if we tried to compile the same material on our own. Your's is a
unique resource.
Please keep up the good works.
Cheers, Dennis
Dennis, as you will
see in the next letter, I was mistaken about 711 morphing into Destiny. They
were just by the same creator and Destiny took over 711's slot in Police
Comics. I have
since altered the introduction to last issue to remove the error. Glad
you liked the CD as well!
Just a quick note
about the latest issue. I enjoyed the Destiny story, but noticed a possible
error in the intro. My understanding has always been that Destiny and 711
were separate characters. Everything I've ever read about this (which sadly
doesn't include Police no. 16) has the story involving 711 being shot and killed,
Destiny avenging his murder and then taking over the strip in the following issue
(much like the Comet/Hangman story).
Otherwise, another great issue.
Paris
I was a little unsure about that
myself. I based the intro on my memory of something I had read earlier, without
checking it to verify. I confused the fact that they had the same creator with them
being the same character! My collection also does not include Police Comics
no. 16, since when I ordered the first 30 issues of that title on microfiche they
arrived without that one, which was permanently sold out! Thanks for the heads up!
That's it for the letters
page this month. Be sure to check back next month for some more great reprints,
including the return of a hero not seen since issue no. 1 of Pure Excitement Comics! It
will be a very special third anniversary spectacular!
