I hope you all enjoyed this first-ever
Pure Excitement Comics Special! Next month will feature a special "All-Patriotic Hero" theme
and will include three heroes who have not yet appreared in these "pages."
Now, let's check out the letters I received in response to last month's issue:
Just writing to
congratulate you on issue 8. I got some great background information on
the Better/Standard group of heroes. And the format worked very well,
making it seem like a facsimile reprint. Nicely done.
Keep up the good work.
Anthony Bernardo
Thanks for another great letter, Anthony!
Last month's "total reprint" issue was a somewhat ambitious project which I may not be willing
to tackle again for quite some time. I thought Nedor/Standard deserved a closer look, but I
plan to include a bit of variety in the coming issues. I hope you enjoyed seeing the Black
Terror again this issue, and be on the look out for some other great Nedor characters (the
Fighting Yank, Commando Cubs, the Ghost, etc.) to make appreances in the coming months.
Dear Bill, First, let me
say how much I've enjoyed your web site. I hope that you keep it up and running
for a long time. I discovered your site in a link from Richard and Darrin's
Good Guys and Gals web site. I had, in turn, discovered their site thru a link
in one of Richard's post in a GRB Message Board. I had just written to them
concerning the character, The Bronze Man, who was listed in their Wanted section.
I have a Super Comics reprint magazine from 1963 (The Human Fly #1) which featured
a Bronze Man story, and I was able to find it and give them a fairly accurate account
and description of the character, regretting the fact that I don't possess a scanner
so I could send them a picture. Going to your link later that same day, there was the
Bronze Man *S*. And your pictures were much sharper than anything I might've reproduced.
Funny how these things tend to work themselves out *S*. I have greatly enjoyed the stories
that you've chosen to reprint. Without exception these stories have concerned characters
that I've only ever seen pictures of, or read read text descriptions of. You've been able
to fill a large gap in my reading pleasure. Thank you. I'm looking forward to issue
#9, 10, 11, 12 ............. *S*
Sincerely and Keep 'em Flying!
Jeff Beyrent
Well, Jeff, your letter certainly
shows the importance of cross promotion on the Web. I am also a regular reader of
Richard and Darrin's great site (the link is to the left for all of you who haven't
checked it out yet). I have a copy of The Human Fly #10, which reprints a different
issue of Blue Beetle, including a story featuring another great "lost" character, The Puppeteer.
I'll have to keep checking out the comic cons for a copy of #1 with the Bronze Man story.
I plan to keep on producing Pure Excitement Comics as long as I am able, so I hope you're
prepared to keep reading them for a LOOONG time!

In the gallery this month is Super-Mystery Comics Vol. 4 No. 5,
which provided the Magno story for this issue of PEC. On the cover,
Magno and Davey face their arch nemisis, the Clown.
