The Hanging Garden
Architectural constructions like the Hanging Garden are typical
of 18th-century palace ensembles. The Garden was laid out on the
roof of the Place stables and couch-houses. It connects the Southern
and Northern pavilions of the Small Hermitage. The central avenue
of the Garden is decorated with 18th-century decorative sculptures.
A parterre is laid out by the Northern pavilion. In the middle
of the parterre is a fountain surrounded by decorative sculptures,
specially produced for this garden. There are small, wooden pigeon-lofts
at the pavilions' walls overlooking the garden; they are constructed
in the form of covered summer-houses.
