The Red Boudoir
This is a former private room of Empress Maria Alexandrovna,
the wife of Emperor Alexander II. The room's sumptuous decor was
designed in 1853 by the architect H. J. Bosset, well-known for
his reinterpretations of baroque interiors. The red brocatelle
used for the curtains and on the walls and seats came from the
Paris firm Cartier. The rich red of intricately ornamented upholstery
and drapery and upholstered gilt furniture create a luxurious
and comfortable interior. A bronze gilt chandelier splendidly
complements the overall decoration.
