The Small Throne Room
The Memorial Room of Peter the Great (Small Throne Room) was
created from a design by Auguste Montferrand in 1833. Decoration
of the room shows Latin monograms of the Emperor, double-headed
eagles, and crowns. Two paintings mounted on the side walls celebrate
Peter the Great's victories over Charles XII of Sweden: The Battle
of Lesnaya and The Battle of Poltava by Barnabo Medici and Pietro
Scotti. The allegorical painting Peter I with Glory by Jacopo
Amigoni glorified Peter the Great as the creator of a magnificent
empire. The gilt silver throne, made in 1731 in London by Nicholas
Clausen, was installed here after the fire of 1837.
