Welcome to the
peaceful world of Lufia.
Things were not always so quiet. Nearly 100 years
ago, the Sinistrals rose up against humanity and, from their fortress on
Doom Island, sought the subjugation or annihilation of the world.
Many brave warriors fought to prevent their advance and failed. In
the end, only four proved a match for the Sinistrals. Their names
were Maxim, Selan, Guy and Artea. They managed to defeat the Sinistrals,
but the price was high. Artea was blinded after that battle and Maxim and
Selan never made it out alive. However, their sacrifice ensured the
peace and prosperity that followed. At least for a time...
Some ten years ago, a strange young girl wandered into the village of Alekia,
the home of a descendant of Maxim. No one knew her, her parents,
or where she came from. All she could tell of her past was that her
name was Lufia. Having met the hero, they became good friends.
But their friendship was to be tried...
In the present, rumors of massive monster attacks, terrifying demons and
strangers with the power to destroy whole villages at will circulate the
globe. These stories are verified with the return of Gades, the Sinistral
of Destruction. The hero's first encounter with him would have been
his last had not Lufia appeared when she did. Strangely enough, the
sight of her caused Gades to withdraw...
After seeing Gades, the hero takes on the mission of thwarting the return
of the Sinisrtals (he does after all carry the blood of Maxim).
Lufia, unwilling to stay behind while her childhood sweetheart faces great
peril (but I want to face the peril, no it's too perilous), loyally
follows the hero. Her presence becomes an invaluable help do to her
uncanny skill as a magician which rivals that of the Sinistrals.
The next to join this merry band of misfits is Aguro, a respected sword
fighter and soldier. His inability to use magic is greatly compensated
by his skill with a blade. Although his speed and intelligence leave
something to be desired, he is true to his friends and their mission from
the start. His only real problem is his constant bickering
with Jerin.
The final ally you find is Jerin. The hero earns the eternal gratitude
and devotion of this half elf after saving her life. Although, due
to her elf blood, she has the appearance of a child, Jerin is a skilled
archer and magician. Even though she has low attack power and a strong
tendency to fight with Lufia and Aguro, she is the fastest member of the
group and holds both the power of the elves and humans.
USELESS INFORMATION:
Now, I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but there were a few errors in the Lufia & The Fortress of Doom
booklet and charts. This is one of them. In the characters section, it shows a picture
of Lou (the picture you see at the left). Here's the problem. That's not Lou!
Lou has orange hair. This is a picture of a boy in the big shop in Lorbenia on the first floor
(he's with his sister who says he wants everything in sight).
Lufia & The Fortress of Doom is a must have addition to any RPG fan's library. It contains all the requirements of a classic: a solid plot, memorable and whimsical characters, nice graphics, quality music, and unexpected plot twists. Long live Lufia!
