Size of finished afghan : approx. 54" X 66"Done up in crochet thread #10 bedspread weight using three strands at a time(equals sports weight yarn)3 balls of white or color of your choice(requires approx. 9420 yds [ 3 x 3140yrds].) Sports weight yarn (requires approx. 3140 yrds or 28 oz.)thread count does not include amount for making butterflies, see butterfly pattern  at bottom of page for this information.

Note: if use sport weight yarn only use one strand.

If use crochet thread use 3 strands at a time or use 6 ply crochet cotton measurement same as sport weight yarn.

Size H crochet hook

Butterflies= 8 for 2 placements and 9 for 3 placements

total of 17 Butterflies needed.

Afghan Instructions:

Ch.229

Rnd 1: ch 2,(counts as first hdc, here and throughout), hdc in each ch across, turn.

Rnd 2-10: ch 2, hdc in each hdc across.

Rnd 11: ch 3(counts as first dc, here and throughout), 2 dc in next hdc,* ch 7, skip next 5 hdc, sc in next hdc, ch 3, skip next 2 hdc, sc in next hdc, ch 7, skip next 5 hdc, shell in next hdc (shell= 2dc, ch 1, 2 dc), repeat from* across ending with 2dc in next to last hdc and 1dc in last hdc of row(this the ch3 of turn which makes last dc here and throughout). (14 ch-3 loops, 13 shells)

Rnd 12: ch 3, 2 dc in next dc,* ch 3, sc in ch 7-space, ch 5, sc in ch3-space, ch3, shell in center of shell. Repeat from* end with 2dc in next to last dc, dc in last dc, turn. (14 ch-5 loops, 13 shells)

Rnd 13: ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, *11trc in ch5- space, shell in shell. Repeat from * across ending with 2 dc in next to last dc, 1 dc in last dc, turn.

Rnd 14: ch 3, 2 dc in next dc,* ch2, sc in 1st trc,( ch3, skip next trc, sc in next trc) 5 times. Ch 2**shell in top of next shell; repeat from * ending at ** 2dc in next to last dc, dc in last dc,turn.

Rnd 15: ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, *(ch3, skip first loop, sc in next ch-3sp)5 times, ch3, ** shell in top next shell, repeat from * ending at ** 2dc in next to last dc, dc in last dc of row.

Attach butterflies according to diagram

Attach tassles to ends of afghan if want nice finished look to afghan.

# 20 crochet thread or regular bedspread weight[#10] crochet cotton

Motif size: 3½" x 3½" at widest points

(Note: regular bedspread weight[#10] will increase size to about 6½" x 6½" and will be less lacy)

Note: upper wings are 5 rows whereas bottom wings are 4 rows

Attach butterfly's at wing tips after blocking to shape shown in picture. Secure butterflies at body.
